Premier Masonry & Waterproofing came to my property to remove my old broken, crumbling chimney that had a lot of water coming in damaging the siding of my property. They rebuild me a new chimney from the ground up to the original height. They arrived on time every morning, explaining everything from start to finish and their workmanship was excellent. They also left the area clean and tidy after the project was complete. Highly recommend!!
Frequently Asked Questions About Premier Masonry & Waterproofing
What basement masonry repair service do you provide?
Our basement masonry repair services encompass a range of solutions for damaged brick, block, stone, or mortar in basement walls. We specialize in crack repair, mortar joint restoration (repointing), wall stabilization, and addressing moisture-related damage. Our comprehensive approach ensures your basement's structural integrity and longevity.
What causes basement masonry damage?
Several factors can lead to basement masonry damage. These include water infiltration and inadequate drainage, repeated freeze-thaw cycles, hydrostatic pressure from saturated soil, foundation settling or soil movement, and deterioration of mortar or subpar initial construction. Understanding these causes helps us provide targeted solutions for your specific issues.
Are cracks in basement walls normal?
While fine hairline cracks can occur naturally as a house settles, certain types of cracks warrant immediate attention. Cracks that are widening, horizontal in nature, form a stair-step pattern, or allow water seepage indicate more serious problems. These should be professionally inspected to determine the underlying cause and appropriate remediation.
What's the difference between vertical and horizontal cracks?
Vertical cracks often result from normal settling and may be less concerning. However, horizontal cracks typically indicate pressure from soil or water and are considered structural issues requiring prompt attention. Our experts can assess the type of crack and recommend the most suitable repair strategy.
What's the difference between damp-proofing and waterproofing?
Damp-proofing offers resistance to moisture but isn't effective against water under pressure. Waterproofing, on the other hand, actively prevents water intrusion using membranes, drainage systems, and sealants. For long-term protection, waterproofing is more durable and effective, providing a robust defense against water damage.
How long does basement waterproofing last?
When properly installed and maintained, high-quality waterproofing systems can provide protection for 20 to 30 years or even longer. Regular inspections and timely maintenance can help extend the lifespan of your waterproofing solution, ensuring long-term protection for your basement.
How long does a masonry project usually take?
The duration of a masonry project varies depending on its size, complexity, and weather conditions. Small repairs might be completed in a day, while larger projects could extend to several days or weeks. We provide a detailed timeline before commencing work to ensure you're fully informed about the project's duration.
Is a cracked chimney dangerous?
Yes, a cracked chimney poses significant risks. It can allow heat, sparks, and toxic gases like carbon monoxide to enter your home. Additionally, structural damage can worsen over time, increasing fire hazards and potentially leading to more costly repairs. Prompt inspection and repair are crucial for safety and prevention of further damage.
How much does chimney repair cost?
Chimney repair costs vary based on the type and extent of damage. Minor repairs may cost a few hundred dollars, while extensive structural repairs can be more substantial. To get an accurate estimate, we recommend scheduling a professional inspection. This allows us to assess the specific needs of your chimney and provide a detailed cost breakdown.
Can you repair my roof instead of replacing it?
Certainly. If the damage to your roof is localized and the overall condition is good, repairs are often the most cost-effective solution. Our team will assess the extent of the damage and recommend the most appropriate course of action, whether that's targeted repairs or a full replacement if necessary.
