The young man correctly identified it as a probable electrical problem. He referred me to an independent electrician who found broken wires connected to the pump. Repairs were done, and the pump now works. Caution to others with septic systems that include pumps. A prolonged power outage could result in sewage backing up into the house since the pump is not pushing water out to the drain field. I now have a new working generator to prevent that.
