I had a horrific experience working with Marling. In short, materials arrived damaged and/or in the wrong color, and the customer service was awful. Issues are described in detail below:
1) We had to work with three different salespeople. The person we finally ended up working with (J. Teela) was difficult to communicate with because he only works Tuesday-Thursday, and no one else at the store was able to help us when we had issues pop up (see below) on Friday or Monday. We were not made aware of his limited availability until very late in the process, once we started having issues. The limited availability resulted in significant delays.
2) More than 1/3 of the Trex boards had scratches or were swelled and significantly thicker than the other boards. To Marling’s credit, they addressed this issue well by providing replacements in a timely manner.
3) The salesperson quoted our deck railing at one price, then delayed in ordering and said the price increased by more than 10% (more than $1000 increase). No parts listing was every provided to us before the railing was ordered, and the order did not have enough railing to complete the project. Additionally, some of the deck materials arrived in the wrong color.
4) When these issues were raised with the store manager (Josh Z.), he was dismissive, rude, and generally not helpful.
5) The one bright spot was that the person in charge of returns, James, was excellent to work with. However, it is regrettable that we were even forced to make returns (see issues above).
