Ideal Custom Flooring is the best! From the quote to picking things out and the girls in the office I cant say enough good things! Professional, fair, clean, great communication and flexible.
We chose stain and when we saw the floor after the sanding we went with the natural floor. We had “wonky” transition areas. They worked with them and they look great!! I highly recommend! Thank you all!!!

We had a great experience with Ideal!! Kyle knocked it out of the park! We had a complete tear out of many different types of floors throughout the whole house, you would never know after the job was complete. Replaced it with LVP glue down by Cali vinyl. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Great experience all around. From working with Madison and Kassidy at the office and with Kyle for installation - everything turned out perfect.
I don’t know if there is such a being as the god of flooring, but if there was, Kyle is probably that being. Kyle worked with us for almost two whole weeks to get our flooring perfect. He solo removed 1400 sq feet of carpet, 2 types of hard wood, 3 different types of tile, and had to deal with absolutely botched installs from past companies that made removal significantly more difficult than it should have been. He replaced it all with very nice LVP, that matched our existing wood accents around the house as well as carpeting on our stairs. Kyle went easily above and beyond past experiences and I would absolutely recommend you asking for him as your installer.
Frequently Asked Questions About Ideal Custom Flooring LLC
How does Wisconsin's humidity affect my hardwood floors?
Southeastern Wisconsin experiences significant fluctuations in humidity levels, with humid summers and dry winters. Hardwood naturally absorbs and releases moisture (hygroscopic), causing it to expand and contract with these seasonal changes. To prevent issues like gapping or cupping in your floors, we recommend maintaining indoor relative humidity between 35% and 50% throughout the year. This can be achieved by using humidifiers during winter months and air conditioning or dehumidifiers during summer.
What is "Dustless Sanding," and is it truly mess-free?
Dustless sanding utilizes advanced dust containment systems with powerful vacuums directly connected to the sanding equipment. While we can't claim it's completely dust-free, these systems effectively capture approximately 99% of airborne particles. This significantly reduces dust infiltration into your HVAC system and prevents accumulation on your furniture and household surfaces.
How soon can I walk on my floors after refinishing?
Walking timeframes vary depending on the finish applied. With standard water-based products, sock-only traffic is typically permitted after 4-6 hours. Please avoid laying out area rugs for 6-8 weeks, as they will change the color of the hardwood. For clients choosing our Arboritec UV Elite system, the floor is completely cured immediately after UV light application, allowing for immediate use without waiting periods.
What is the benefit of UV-cured finishes like Arboritec UV Elite?
Arboritec UV Elite utilizes ultraviolet light technology to initiate an immediate chemical hardening reaction in the finish. This creates a surface approximately 40% more durable than conventional two-component finishes. It's particularly beneficial for commercial environments and busy households since furniture and rugs can be returned immediately, eliminating the traditional multi-day cure period.
Should I choose Solid or Engineered hardwood for my home?
For Wisconsin homes, engineered hardwood is generally recommended for basement installations or over radiant heating systems, as its layered construction provides superior stability against moisture and temperature variations. Solid hardwood remains an excellent traditional option for above-grade rooms and offers the advantage of multiple refinishing possibilities throughout its lifespan.
Can you match new hardwood to my existing old floors?
Matching new and existing hardwood is certainly possible through professional techniques like 'lacing-in' or 'feathering' new boards with existing flooring. By selecting identical wood species and sanding the entire floor surface before applying uniform stain, we can create a seamless transition that makes the distinction between old and new boards virtually undetectable.
Do I need to leave my house during the refinishing process?
Temporary relocation isn't mandatory, though many clients prefer it for convenience. While modern water-based and UV-cured finishes produce minimal VOCs and odors, the operation of machinery creates considerable noise, and certain areas of your home will have restricted access for several days, which some families find disruptive to their daily routines.
How do I maintain my floors to make the finish last?
Wisconsin's winter grit and salt pose the greatest threat to floor finishes. We advise placing protective mats at all entrances and performing regular cleaning with a microfiber mop using pH-neutral cleaning products. Avoid using wax-based cleaners or steam mops, as these can deteriorate the polyurethane finish over time, reducing its protective qualities.
Which wood species are the "hardest" and best for pets?
Wood hardness is quantified using the Janka Scale. Hickory ranks as the hardest North American wood species, followed by hard maple and oak. For homes with larger dogs, we often suggest selecting woods with prominent grain patterns, such as red oak, as they naturally conceal minor scratches more effectively than smooth-grained species like maple.
Do you provide a "Waiver of Lien"?
In Wisconsin, requesting lien waivers with each payment is essential for homeowner protection. These documents verify that we've properly compensated our suppliers and subcontractors, preventing any third party from legally placing a lien against your property should there be payment disputes with the primary contractor.
What’s the difference between floating luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and standard floating vinyl plank?
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is generally thicker, more durable, and designed to more closely resemble real hardwood in both appearance and texture. Standard vinyl plank is typically thinner and a more economical option.
