  I had a composite deck built by Integrity Decking this summer. Work began about four weeks before its completion roughly ten days ago, and I'm sharing my experience so prospective customers can make an informed decision. This was a $30,000 project for a 160-square-foot deck, roughly $190 per square foot, and I expected the workmanship to reflect that investment. During the sales process this spring, I asked specifically whether Integrity used its own crews, since I was told this composite product required specialized installation. I was assured that it did. In practice, both the material delivery and the construction appeared to be handled by subcontractors, and when I raised this, the company maintained otherwise. The installers were courteous, but that assurance was a major reason I chose Integrity. The footing problems were foreseeable months in advance. When the salesperson came out to measure, I asked whether I should wait to build a planned retaining wall until after the deck was finished, since installing footings in open ground seemed simpler. He assured me it was fine to build the wall first, that the crew would use an auger, and that alignment would not be an issue. He gave no guidance on required clearance between the footings and the wall. On my own, I even moved the wall farther from the house, thinking it would help. Issues began early in the build. The initial delivery included railings intended for another job. On the first day, the foreman raised concerns that the footings would be close to the retaining wall, which I had spent a week of my vacation building. I agreed it needed to be addressed immediately rather than after the fact, told him the salesperson had never given me any clearance requirements, and asked that the company or permit requirements be checked before work continued. Work proceeded, and I assumed the question had been resolved. When I returned at completion, I found: 1. Post bases significantly off-center on the footings, with both bases partially off their footings 2. A footing less than three feet from the edge of the retaining wall 3. No flashing or weatherproofing where the deck attaches to the house, despite the contract specifying weather-tight sealing 4. Black railings instead of the bronze specified in the contract 5. Split, poorly fitted post wraps 6. Gaps of about 3/8" in the board edging, left unsealed The deck failed its building inspection, primarily due to the footing placement and the missing weatherproofing at the house. The inspector told me he had not been called out at any point during construction, including before the footings were poured. Since then, I've made repeated calls and generally reach front-office staff rather than a salesperson or manager who can give clear answers. The fix will likely mean new footings, disturbance to the retaining wall and landscaping I built, and more of my own time spent coordinating, all during the fall season I had hoped to spend enjoying this deck. Much of this could have been avoided with clear guidance during the sales visit, correct footing placement, and inspection at the proper stage. I'm giving Integrity Decking the opportunity to make this right and will update this review based on how they respond. For a company named Integrity, I hope that's what comes next.
