I review honestly, so I'm going to do so here. I had high hopes for this company but am severely disappointed. I chose Vertical to build a house on my land because of their 5-star rating & appearance as one the best builders in the area. Things started out great. Keegan was my sales rep and she was very friendly, outgoing, and helpful. As time went on, however, that changed, seemingly because she was overwhelmed and on her way out. Taylor replaced Keegan and she was non-existent. Didn't answer or return calls - I'm not even sure what she got paid to do. My house was completed just over 2 months ago, and closing was a disaster. Vertical gave me a closing date, prompting me to schedule movers & list my house in MD; however, it turned out that there were still critical items pending & we were still at least a week away from being able to close. I didn't find this out until a few days prior & ONLY because my realtor identified the issues. Since my move-in, it's been a disaster. Damaged/defective materials were installed in several areas. Both of my bathroom mirrors are significantly damaged, the bathtub had a large crack, several trimming planks are damaged, and granite countertops have irremovable stains. When I did a walkthrough during construction, I noticed that a lot of structural wood was worn, prompting them to sister boards in several areas. I pray that what they did was sufficient and dread having issues down the road. The door to my crawlspace was poorly installed & wasn't sealed, causing substantial rainwater to leak into the crawlspace. To this day, there's still standing water that they told me they were going to take care of. My living room lights still flicker every night like a strobe at a nightclub; they still can't figure out how to fix it after coming out 4 separate times. Ironically, they've had the same issue with other houses yet still somehow don't know how to fix it. The issue appears to be defective lights, which would be consistent with the other defective materials that they decided to install. I expected Vertical to build my home yet it's evident that they outsourced a lot of work to 3rd parties that were inept & didn't care. Caulking in several areas was terrible. The electrical outlet next to the fireplace didn't work, requiring them to cut into the wall where they found loose wiring. The outlet had been disconnected for no apparent reason. The trimming in my master bathroom looks amateur - planks were cut short, poorly cut & there are gaps between tiles & walls. Vertical would only stain the pillars on my front porch & not the boards of the porch itself & they didn't even do that correctly. The pillars were stained with indoor-only treatment, causing them to crack & peel already. Within only 2 months, piping on my septic tank broke, causing grey water to leak all over my yard. The drywall in my garage was so poorly done that there are significant gaps between drywall & cinder blocks that are perfect for allowing insects to nest. We did my 45-day check-in 2 weeks ago, where a laundry list of issues were escalated. Several of these issues had been escalated during my walkthroughs prior to move-in & are STILL pending action. To date, Vertical's only fixed a few things while seemingly ignoring the rest. They'll tell you that someone's coming out to fix them & no one shows. They take absolutely no initiative, forcing you to constantly call & beg for repairs. This has been a constant since I moved in. Vertical had absolutely no issues demanding payments during construction, but when it comes to holding up their end of the bargain, they're negligent. Once they have your money, care goes out the window. Construction took 2-3 months longer than initially estimated, so you would expect minimal issues given all of the additional time. This is far from a 5-star company & I would only recommend them if you love headaches, unnecessary stress & want your home building experience to be ruined. This build cost me over $410,000 & I absolutely did not get my money's worth. So disappointed.
