- JAJustin AtteberryJun 8, 20261.0I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves to be shared. A veteran who is 100% disabled due to service to our country was under a doctor's care and placed on short-term disability. The physician later extended that leave by 2 weeks (outside of everyone's control) before releasing the veteran back to work. As a result, Starlight Homes charged the buyer $7,500. Think about that for a moment. This wasn't a buyer who simply changed their mind or trying to back out of a contract. This was a veteran following medical advice from a licensed physician. What makes this even more disappointing is Starlight's marketing message about making the homebuying process simple and guiding buyers every step of the way. In this case, when a legitimate medical situation arose, there appeared to be little flexibility or compassion. I understand that builders have contracts and policies. However, there is a difference between enforcing a contract and doing what is right when life throws an unexpected challenge at a family, especially one that has already sacrificed so much in service to our country. Buyers should carefully read every page of their contract, understand all deadlines and penalties, and recognize that the sales presentation and the contractual reality may be very different things. Based on this experience, I would strongly encourage potential buyers, particularly veterans, to ask detailed questions before signing anything. I also would encourage anyone, veteran or not, to find a different builder... Veterans deserve better.
