You can’t do any better when you have an HVAC issue. We had them proactively replace a specialized Carrier unit in our high-rise condo that was 24 years old. It was built to order by Carrier such that it was a plug-n-play unit of exactly the same size and form as the old one. Matt and Jamee removed the old unit, cleaned the space and installed the new one in just a few hours. We couldn’t be more pleased with how the job went.

Marco was our plumbing technician and I can’t say enough about his customer service and people skills. He did a wonderful job. He was efficient and made sure he cleaned up after himself and removed all the trash. I will be sure to request to have Marco service my account from now on.

I used to use Carolina Cool for all of my HVAC installation, service, and maintenance. When they were locally owned they had excellent service response and fair pricing. Sadly, neither of those are true these days. I paid for a maintenance contract on June 4th and still they have not come out to service it. In September I had an issue with my HVAC and had them come out. They diagnosed a faulty motor which was under warranty but not in stock. That part of the story is quite understandable. I don't expect them to have every part in stock at a moments notice. They offered to put one in as a loaner until the warranty motor came in. The cost to install that motor temporarily was $250. Again, that seemed reasonable however I didn't feel it was necessary so I declined. They then gave me the quote for labor to install the new motor. $2100! Labor only! Keep in mind this is the same part they were going to install as a loaner for $250. Because of the offensive pricing practice and the fact that it had been months since I paid for my maintenance contract and they still had not come out I called to cancel the maintenance. I was told a manager would call me which never happened. I subsequently called again to cancel it and was told my cancellation was denied. Again I was told someone would call me and again no one ever did. If I could give them less than one star I would. The local service people may be perfectly fine but the management and people directing the company leave much to be desired. Also, you will notice in their response they suggest calling them to work it out. Perhaps they didn't read the review. I have called repeatedly and have never received a return call as promised.

I have waited to post this review in the hopes that Carolina Cool would discuss this issue to help make sense of it. But it’s been a couple months now, so we can add unresponsiveness to the following issues. Short but sweet: I ultimately spent several hundred dollars in emergency and non emergency visits, to get guidance for repairs and parts I didn’t need. The tea: I had an annual service/maintenance contract with them. I noticed a couple months after they did the spring service both my upstairs and downstairs would cool when only one should have been on. I called them out ($99). I was told that I needed a new zone board (approx $300). My system is only 5 years old so I asked about a warranty and they told me the boards are usually covered for 5 years so it wouldn’t be under warranty. I told them I would think about getting the job done. A couple weeks go by, and my whole system shuts down (middle of summer on a Friday evening). It had never happened before. I called them to come out again ($150 since it’s emergency). Miraculously, the system comes back on by itself a couple hours before the technician arrives. I still have them show up, but since it’s running they can’t identify anything wrong. Two more weeks go by and the whole system goes down again. I call them out (another $150) and another sweltering overnight until they can get to us since it’s Friday afternoon again. Technician arrives next day and he says we need a new control board ($700) and it will take 4-5 days. I again ask about warranty and he tells me that the price quoted is the warranty price. When I ask how much it would be if it wasn’t under warranty, he wouldn’t/couldn’t give me a price…just said that is when people replace their whole HVAC unit (I am immediately skeptical). But, here I am, stuck in a sweltering house in the middle of summer, and heat wave, with no AC. So, I say let’s go ahead and get it done. But I can’t shake the “something isn’t right with all of this” feeling”. I call another company that I had done business with in the past, they come right over. I am watching what he is doing and he literally touches the slightly tilted overflow sensor to set it to rights and the whole unit came right back on. Just like that. Within a couple seconds. So, yes, there were a couple trouble spots. 1. A drain line in the hvac unit had clogged and the sensor being tilted allowed it to not return to normal running condition immediately. No $700 control panel needed. A simple flush of the drain line and a repositioning of the sensor. 2. Alternate repair tech looked at zone board and did confirm that one of the zones wasn’t working on the board any longer. But, he required the connection to an open zone that was already available on my existing board instead of having me order a brand new $300 board. I reached out to Carolina Cool a couple of times to try and discuss this matter (very nicely I should add). I wanted to make sure they knew what type of service their technicians are (or not) providing. A refund would be nice, but I definitely wasn’t going to hold my breath. I was told a couple of times that they would give my information to the people that needed to get it. In my last follow-up, the woman apologized profusely and said she would share my info with them again. So, it appears they don’t care.
