  For the past 15 years I have owned a 4 bedroom house in Palmetto Dunes that is now about 35 years old. As such, from time to time weather damage occurs and/or functional items in the house wear out and need repair. Southern Services provided reliable and prompt small to major repairs. Their prices are also reasonable.

  I’ve used Southern Services since 2023 and, until recently, generally had positive experiences. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was extremely disappointing and felt like a major decline in professionalism and customer service. About three weeks before the work date, I called and carefully explained that I needed two separate jobs completed, one electrical and one plumbing, and provided detailed notes on both issues. I specifically coordinated my travel to Hilton Head around these appointments. On the scheduled day, a handyman arrived with notes for a completely different job that I never requested. When I contacted the office, I was told there was no record of the plumbing or electrical work I had scheduled. Nothing had actually been booked correctly despite my detailed conversation in advance. Since I had traveled specifically for this work, this was incredibly frustrating and disruptive. To their credit, they were eventually able to fit in the electrical work that day and schedule the plumber for the following day. However, the customer service throughout the situation was poor. There was little accountability, no meaningful apology, and I repeatedly felt that blame was being shifted onto me rather than the company taking ownership of the scheduling failures. The billing process afterward only added to the frustration. The invoices were presented entirely as lump sums, and when I requested a detailed breakdown of labor and materials, I was told they were unable to separate the charges further. There were also items listed on the invoice for work that was never performed, along with labor hours that did not align with the actual time the technicians were onsite (charging 3.5 hrs for travel, 2.5 hrs for the hrs working onsite). What has been most disappointing is the communication afterward. The support representative responding to my questions has consistently provided short, dismissive answers instead of directly addressing legitimate concerns about the billing. I’ve tried repeatedly to get clarification and transparency, but at this point I’m honestly at a loss. I don’t leave negative reviews lightly, especially for a company I’ve used for years and for a small business, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. At this point, I would strongly caution others to reconsider using Southern Services and instead go with another contractor on the island.

  Southern Services again provided me with efficient, quality service, this time in the plumbing trade. I recommend them highly.

  We have depended on Southern Maintenance since we bought our Sea Pines home in 2003. We have always been extremely pleased with every job they have done for us including constructing an addition 3 years ago.
