Disappointing overall experience
Chose Crooks and Sons after a referral and getting multiple quotes. Sales rep visited and counted the windows and doors multiple times. Had a measuring crew sent out to verify. 3 sliding doors and 19 windows replaced. Agreed to pricing in November and were told 8-12 weeks for delivery.
End of January, began installing sliding doors and discovered immediately that they had installed the wrong door (left vs right). Had to cut back out and relocate, causing damage to stucco exterior.
Delivered arched windows did not have grids and were incorrectly ordered. Agreed to move forward without grids to not lose another 8-12 weeks. Rep did adjust the price due to their mistake. Informed by installation crew of one further delayed window and not by the sales rep, which had stated it would arrive that same week.
Inspection the windows after installation, the work was sub-par. The aluminum trim had been installed in 3 different manners! The trim around the arches was also caulked poorly and had several gaps! Pointed this out to the crew, who stated it was difficult to get perfect fits on stucco. Also found wooden trim inside the house which had been knocked in and had to be renailed. Had to review each window with them. Does not appear they have a checklist to run through after installations. Homeowner must follow behind and inspect. The crew did fix the items pointed out; but it felt “extra” to ask, rather than completing properly from the start.
Rep contacted us asking that we pay 90% of the bill even though contract states “due upon completion of work” and we were still without the final window. Rep also stated, "we got 2 windows for free because he had originally counted wrong”, they counted multiple times. We agreed to the price quoted to us which the Rep had stated “we will do it all for this price regardless”, if the quote had been higher, we may have gone elsewhere. Being reasonable, we agreed to give all but a portion for the last window.
Two months later informed the final window was in and could be install that day or would have to reschedule. We had reached out many times prior asking for updates. We could not drop everything; so, it took another 3 weeks to schedule and install the final window. At this time, we had the trim from the sliding door removed to allow for repairs to the damaged stucco. Had multiple stucco repair quotes which were sent to Crooks and Sons. Did agree to remove the repair cost from our final bill.
Before the Stucco repairs were completed the Rep informed his crew to reattach the trim. Not confirming with us, even after we had told them multiple times, we would let them know when completed. Surprised by banging on our house and had to call the Rep. Poor communication by the sales rep was 80% the issues with this job.
While on phone, Rep asked about final payment, which could not be given as repairs were not yet completed! Rep brought up that we were having other repairs done and they did not wish to pay for those. Insulting after we had provided detailed quotes for only the damage they caused. Asked to speak to someone above the sales rep as this was unacceptable. We were told the owner would call.
Dino Crooks, the owner, called later that day. We explained all of the concerns about the poor communication, poor quality of work, and unprofessional manner in which this job was being handled. He apologized and said they did what they could to make it right.
When the stucco repairs were completed, we sent the final payment minus the repair costs.
This review is as factual as possible recollecting a series of events and our experience over the course of 4 months. Based on this, we would not recommend this company due to 1. Lack of Appropriate/clear/efficient communication, 2. quality of work and 3. professionalism.
