If you see the company van in your neighborhood, be aware that the driver has no regard for the safety of your community. They drive past our home regularly, breaking the law. The posted speed limit is 25, narrow residential street, driveways, children. I would expect someone with any pride in their business to be responsive in correcting this behavior but other attempts to contact have gone unanswered.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nissly Professional Hardwood Flooring
What is the basic process?
Our process typically spans three days. On day one, we remove the carpet and its fixtures, fill holes, and sand the floor. If needed, we also apply stain. Day two involves applying a sealer coat and the first layer of finish. On the final day, we screen the floor for smoothness and apply the last two coats of finish, buffing between applications.
Will there be a lot of dust?
While some dust is inevitable, our process is designed to be nearly dust-free. We take cleanliness very seriously and implement thorough clean-up procedures throughout the project.
Do we need to move out?
Relocation is not necessary. We use water-borne urethane finishes that are superior to oil-modified alternatives. The floor becomes walkable just three hours after each application. It reaches 90% cure within 24 hours and full cure in a week, allowing for furniture replacement the day after project completion.
Why oil-based?
Oil-based finishes enhance wood patina, reduce grain raise, and offer superior durability. They provide water and urine resistance, allowing for easy cleaning similar to tile floors. Our recommended product includes a UV-blocker for added protection.
How long will it take?
Project duration varies. Refinishing typically takes several days, while complete installations may extend beyond a week. We allow time for wood acclimation to prevent issues like buckling, cupping, or gaps that can occur if the wood isn't properly adjusted to your home's environment.
How do I control the moisture content?
Maintain a moisture level between 35-50 percent. Use warm-air humidifiers in winter and air conditioning in summer. This is particularly important for hardwoods and plank flooring.
What about urine stains?
Urine stains often resist sanding. Options include replacing individual boards, using enzymes and dark stain to minimize odor and discoloration, or angled sanding to lighten the stain. For persistent issues or sun-damaged wood that can't be matched, we recommend complete floor sanding.
Will these fumes hurt my children?
Our low VOC finishes are considered safe for children and pets. We also offer 'green' finishes with very low VOC content for added peace of mind.
What about dust-free sandless options?
Dust-free, sandless methods use chemicals to strip the floor and apply a liquid acrylic wax. While this approach reduces dust, it doesn't address unevenness or damage. The resulting finish shows marks easily and requires frequent maintenance to maintain its appearance.
How do I maintain my floor?
To maintain your floor: use entrance rugs, keep plants off the wood, use furniture glides, clean spills promptly, vacuum regularly with a brush attachment, use a sponge mop in the direction of the wood grain, and avoid abrasive cleaners, waxes, or oil soaps. We provide a recipe for a homemade cleaning solution suitable for your new floor.
