Question 1

What are the benefits of tinting my car’s windows?

Accepted Answer

Window film protects both you and your car from the damaging effects of the sun. With the ever-increasing breakdown of our ozone layer, dermatologists warn against over exposure to the sun. Polarized sunglasses protect the eyes, sunblock protects the skin, and window film protects the interior of your car.

Reject up to 82 percent of the sun’s total solar energy
Block out almost 100 percent of harmful and damaging ultraviolet rays.
Reduced interior heat
Reduced utility costs
Improved occupant comfort
Reduced glare. Great when driving at night with headlights in your rear window.
Increased privacy also means increased security. What a thief can’t see, he won’t steal.
Extended air conditioning equipment life
Increased fade protection
Added protection from accidents, storms and burglars

Question 2

What is window tint?

Accepted Answer

Window film is made up of alternating layers of a polyester polymer and a laminating adhesive. Depending of the specific type of film, the polyester layer may be dyed, carbon fiber, ceramic, coated with an ultra violet inhibitor, or simply added for additional strength. Dyes are added to give the film it’s characteristic color.

Question 3

What do I use to clean my tinted windows?

Accepted Answer

Warm water or a glass cleaner called Sprayway and a soft cloth. Never use Windex.

Question 4

How dark can I legally tint my windows?

Question 5

How long does it take to have tint installed?

Accepted Answer

Generally, about 4 hours depending on how many windows need to be tinted and to allow for clean up and dry time.

Question 6

Can it ever be removed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As a tint professional I can remove tint if you ever want to do that. For example, if you lease a car and want to remove it at the end of the lease before returning it to the dealership.

Question 7

Why is your warranty better than everyone else’s?

Accepted Answer

I perform the warranty work for you and I deal with the factory instead of asking you to. My warranty covers labor and materials if the tint bubbles or falls off the glass for any reason. The warranty does not cover scratches, tears or any other damage. No film manufacturer provides a warranty for darker than legal limit installs.

Question 8

Why do I see bubbled or purple tint on cars?

Accepted Answer

The tint is either very old or of poor quality. If our tint ever bubbles, we will replace it at no additional cost to you.

Question 9

Is window tint legal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is. There are limits though. Call shop for details.

Question 10

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Call or text for a quote.

Question 11

Can’t I just go to the store and buy some tint and do it myself?

Accepted Answer

You’ll wish you didn’t. You’ll end up extremely frustrated and you will have to pay more to have it removed if it needs to be.

Question 12

Will the tint damage my rear defroster?

Accepted Answer

No it will not. We tint right over the top of it. Damage from water to any electronics left in your vehicle is not covered. If you must leave a cell phone, laptop or any other electronic device in the vehicle, you must let us know before you leave your vehicle. We are not responsible for water damage if you decide to leave them.

Question 13

Accepted Answer

Question 14

Accepted Answer

Our new address since January 1, 2023 is:

24023 NE Shea Lane #303 Wood Village, OR 97060

Accepted Answer

No, I never have. I don’t know how. And it would increase the time it takes to tint a vehicle.

Question 16

What's the difference between carbon and ceramic window tint films?

Accepted Answer

Carbon films block heat through absorption and offer good UV protection without metallic interference. Ceramic films use non-conductive particles for superior heat rejection and clarity without affecting electronics. Ceramic provides higher performance but carbon delivers solid protection at a lower price point.

Question 17

How long does automotive window tinting take at Window Tint King?

Accepted Answer

Average turnaround time is four hours for most vehicles. Same-day service is available, so you can drop off your car in the morning and drive it home with fully cured tint that afternoon. Larger vehicles or full-coverage jobs may extend slightly beyond the typical window.

Question 18

Does window tint actually improve fuel economy?

Accepted Answer

Tinted windows reduce cabin heat, which decreases air conditioning demand during warm months. Less AC load means the engine works less to cool the interior, improving fuel efficiency. The effect is most noticeable in stop-and-go traffic and during Portland's summer heat when AC runs constantly.

Question 19

Why do automotive films come with a lifetime factory warranty?

Accepted Answer

Quality films from established manufacturers are engineered to last the life of the vehicle without fading, bubbling, or peeling when properly installed. The lifetime warranty covers material defects and installation issues, reflecting confidence in both the product durability and professional application standards.

Question 20

Can window tint protect my kids and pets from sun exposure in the car?

Accepted Answer

Window film blocks up to 99% of harmful UV rays that cause skin damage and contribute to heat buildup in rear seats. Reduced sun exposure protects children's sensitive skin during car rides, and lower interior temperatures keep pets more comfortable on errands or trips.

Question 21

How does residential window film reduce energy costs?

Accepted Answer

Film reflects solar heat before it enters through glass, keeping indoor temperatures lower without additional air conditioning. This reduces cooling system runtime during warm months. In Portland's climate, heat rejection film makes south- and west-facing rooms significantly more comfortable from late spring through early fall.

Question 22

What's involved in paint correction before applying ceramic coating?

Accepted Answer

Machine polishing removes swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation to restore paint clarity and gloss. Correction levels are customized based on paint condition—some vehicles need single-stage enhancement while others require multi-stage compounding. Surface preparation ensures the ceramic coating bonds to clean, defect-free paint.

Question 23

Can you tint an entire commercial fleet without taking vehicles out of service for days?

Accepted Answer

Fleet scheduling is flexible to minimize downtime, with same-day turnaround for most vehicles. Vans, trucks, and service vehicles are typically completed within four hours. Staggered appointments allow businesses to keep operations running while maintaining a consistent professional appearance across the entire fleet.

Question 24

Does window tint stop furniture and flooring from fading?

Accepted Answer

UV rays cause most fading and discoloration in fabrics, wood, and carpeting near windows. Residential film blocks 99% of UV exposure, significantly slowing damage to interior surfaces. You'll still get natural light, but floors and furniture near south-facing windows last years longer without bleaching or degradation.

Question 25

Why does tint reduce the chance of vandalism?

Accepted Answer

Darkened windows conceal valuables inside vehicles, making them less visible to opportunistic thieves. Privacy tint eliminates the ability to easily scan interiors from outside, reducing break-in attempts. Film also holds shattered glass together if a window is broken, slowing forced entry.

Question 26

What makes ceramic coating easier to maintain than wax?

Accepted Answer

Ceramic coatings chemically bond to paint and create a hydrophobic surface that repels water, dirt, and contaminants. Wash water sheets off instead of beading, and grime doesn't cling as aggressively. You'll spend less time scrubbing and waxing because the coating does the protective work between washes.

Question 27

Can commercial window film improve employee comfort without blocking natural light?

Accepted Answer

Modern films reject heat and glare while maintaining visibility and daylight transmission. Offices stay cooler and computer screens become easier to see without closing blinds. Employees near windows experience fewer temperature swings, and reduced glare decreases eye strain during screen-heavy work.
