I’ve been doing business with Elm for nearly 35 years and have had them install systems in 3 homes as well as referred many new customers to them. But they are not the excellent family run business they previously were. The owner Scott Oest who I’ve had a relationship with for all those years is no longer the owner do I assume they’ve been bought out by some larger enterprise thereby ruining all the best things about the company. I have 2 homes that I’ve had annual maintenance contracts with for decades but when they sent me the new contracts, the price is 20% higher and the service provided is less. I proceeded to make appointments for service provided by the contracts from 2025 and they subsequently cancelled one which had to be rescheduled and I had an appointment for today from 8-12 and when I called them at 12:40, I was told that I cancelled the appointment which I did not do. I was also told that they sent me a text confirming the cancellation which they did not. I requested that Scott Oest call me as we’ve had a decades long relationship. I received multiple calls from them telling me that Scott would not be calling me because while he no longer owns the company, he now runs sales. I told Michael that I don’t care what he runs but I just want to talk to him. They told me that he will not be calling me, so now I will no longer be doing business with them. It’s a disgrace but all good things come to an end!!

The contracted work was not completed to the specifications set forth in the agreement: the second‑floor system was to include 11 supply vents and 1 return, but only 8 supplies were installed. Scott (owner) argued that we are not entitled to a credit because we did not immediately raise the issue. This has no basis in New York contract law. A contractor cannot retain payment for components never furnished and work not performed--it is textbook unjust enrichment. There is no legal basis to deny the credit we have reasonably requested. Second, we were told we were out of warranty and billed for a service call. The contract expressly guarantees all materials and workmanship "for one year from completion." Because the HVAC system was never completed--missing supply vents and lacking required system balancing--the warranty period never began to run. It was therefore incorrect to assert that our warranty expired and charge for the service call related to system performance issues. Third, we were surprised to receive a voicemail from Elm on February 25, 2026, stating that warranty work--specifically, the thermostat controller replacements--will not be performed unless we first pay the disputed service call invoice. Conditioning a manufacturer‑covered warranty replacement on an unrelated, contested charge is inconsistent with Elm's own contract and is not permissible. Warranty obligations must be honored independently of billing disputes. Finally, Elm threatened to send us to collections. Since the service fee is not properly owed, any attempt to send the matter to collections would be baseless and contrary to the terms of the contract. We have made every effort to resolve these issues amicably, to no avail.

We had Elm install 2 replacement AC zones in our home . They were excellent in all aspects of the installation. They had 2 crews, arrived on time, and everything went very smoothly. They also reworked a couple of the returns and gave us a better access point to the attic. Also we got a very competitive price. Highly recommended!

Was told I needed a new thermostat. I let the technician install it. This morning after returning home, found the ac unit running and could not shut it off. Had to remove the new thermostat and tried replacing the old one, Lo AND BEHOLD, the old thermostat works!!!! Tried calling several times and not getting a response! I stopped payment to get your attention? Not going to pay for something I didn’t need ! Cancelled additional appointment for repairs in my heating system! TOTAL LACK OF CONFIDENCE WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!! This is how far off the new thermostat was installed!
