Renaissance Stone Services is a locally operated fabrication and installation business based in Portsmouth, serving the Seacoast region. When you're working with granite, quartzite, marble, quartz, soapstone, or dolomite, the material you choose and how it's installed matters—especially in a climate shaped by salt air, coastal humidity, and freeze-thaw cycles. This region demands more from its surfaces, and that's where local expertise makes the difference.
Absolutely impressed with our kitchen renovation from our initial inquiries to the finished product. Tia was extremely helpful with our decisions about the the products available we needed to replace the old concrete products we had installed a number of years ago.
Tia Knows her product and was able to provide recommendations for what would work in our small kitchen. We saw in person the Quartzite slab that would be installed and it was gorgeous. Photos do not show how amazing it really looks. The way the slab was cut created a very continuous flow. It’s downright perfection.
Matt measured our kitchen expertly so when the installers Steve and Rey arrived it was a smooth operation to put in the new countertops. When our plumber was here to install the new faucet the opening was a very very tiny bit too small. We called Tia and she sent Steve and Rey over immediately to make the opening just a little bit bigger and it was a big success. Now that’s custom service.
Not only that Matt’s measurement for the cooktop was spot on and the appliance slipped in perfectly.
We are so very impressed with Renaissance Stone. Our experience was incredible. Their work took 30 years off the look of our kitchen and it is an absolute improvement.
Without hesitation we recommend this company. Thank you !!

Tia was very helpful and went out of her way to find us the various quartzites we wanted to see. Because of various holds on stones by other fabricators we ended up needing to continue with our project with someone else. But! Tia was so communicative and thoughtful and reasonable throughout our interactions that I feel confident in recommending Renaissance. (Also she gets rave reviews from a local kitchen designer friend.)

From start to finish, a dream to work with thus company. Tia helped me find the best price on the slabs. Larry templates and thought of EVERY detail. The install team were friendly, professional, and so hard working. If you want a fabricator who will work with you from design to install, this is the right choice!

I cannot speak for their quality of work but after what I witnessed Sunday morning between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. July 25th and for all I know this could have been the owner of the company or one of the employees driving a company van, we had a New Hampshire State Police escort while we were doing a military fundraiser for veterans the guy driving this company's van was ignoring all traffic laws driving erratically and dangerous weaving in and out of our convoy blowing through red lights ! Total disregard for safety and not to mention the disrespect that he showed two fellow motorists I would never recommend this company if this is the way they act!!!!!
Frequently Asked Questions About Renaissance Stone
Why does marble etch faster in coastal New Hampshire homes?
Coastal humidity and acidic cleaning products accelerate marble etching in Seacoast properties. The combination of salt air moisture and common household cleaners creates conditions that expose marble's calcium carbonate structure faster than in drier climates. Proper sealing at installation and pH-safe cleaning guidance prevent the etching that undermines marble countertops in Portsmouth kitchens.
How do I know if I'm buying real quartzite or something else?
Quartzite is frequently misidentified at slab yards — softer marble and dolomite are often sold as quartzite. True quartzite resists scratching from a steel blade and shows less veining variation than marble. Vein pattern and hardness verification at selection prevents costly long-term regret when the stone performs below expectations.
What's the difference between granite and quartzite for Seacoast kitchens?
Both handle coastal humidity and freeze-thaw stress, but quartzite is harder and more heat-resistant than granite. Granite offers more color variety and costs less in most cases. Quartzite suits kitchens with heavy daily use and direct heat exposure, while granite delivers proven durability at a lower price point for most Seacoast applications.
Does soapstone really darken over time?
Soapstone darkens naturally as mineral oil penetrates the surface and develops patina. The change is permanent and accelerates with repeated oiling. Homeowners who want the darker look can apply mineral oil regularly; those who prefer lighter stone should skip treatment and let the patina develop slowly over years.
What causes visible seams in quartz countertops?
Poor seam placement on patterned quartz creates visible breaks that interrupt the design. Seams placed mid-pattern or at sight lines stand out even in low light. Experienced fabricators plan seam location during templating to align with cabinet joins or sink cutouts where the break disappears into the layout.
