I was pretty worried about getting a whole new HVAC system. I had a couple of bids and Rhymes gave me a solid deal! They also sent out some great guys today to put it in. Very professional! Everything they promised, they delivered! I'm very impressed and happy that I went with Rhymes!!

I used their internet site when my 80 year old mother’s a/c stopped working. They called me back immediately, scheduled me for the same day, and arrived on time. The workers were kind to my mother and efficient with their work. They had her up and running in no time. The price was very affordable and nobody pressured her to make large purchases or to replace the older unit. I’m thoroughly impressed.

The technician Reilly was great! I was a little disappointed with their scheduling process. I called Sunday evening about my AC outage. They took my number. I would have preferred a scheduled time for Monday to come and fix the AC. Instead I missed the call from them on Monday at 7:40 am to schedule a service time. I saw that they called about 1 hour later. I was told that they would arrive between noon and 5 since other people were scheduled ahead of me. When a person calls schedule a time for the visit at that time.

Great service. Aaron was thorough and very customer-service oriented. He took time to explain what he was doing for maintenance and why, made recommendations to help me better monitor and care for my AC systems between maintenance checks, and made me aware of all of the services and options Rhymes could offer me without making me feel pressured or rushed.
This is an old city house with modern renovations by a prior owner. Aaron made personalized recommendations for common problems with how this house was retrofitted for AC. Now I know some problems specific to this house to watch for and catch before they have a chance to cause significantly more problems.
I will 100% use Rhymes again (for my HVAC in the fall in fact!).
Frequently Asked Questions About Rhymes Heating & Cooling
Why is my AC running but not cooling my house?
This typically indicates the system is operating but cannot effectively remove heat from your home. Common causes include insufficient refrigerant levels, dirty evaporator or condenser coils, blocked airflow due to a clogged air filter, or a malfunctioning compressor. St. Louis's high humidity levels can amplify these issues, making professional diagnosis and repair necessary.
Why does my furnace blow cold air?
Cold air from your furnace may result from the thermostat fan being set to 'ON' rather than 'AUTO.' Additional causes include a contaminated flame sensor, ignition system problems, or safety shutdowns protecting the equipment. When the air fails to heat up, professional service is required to restore proper operation.
Why does my HVAC system keep turning on and off?
This condition is known as short-cycling and typically results from system overheating, a dirty air filter, thermostat malfunction, or an improperly sized unit. Short-cycling leads to higher energy costs and accelerated equipment wear, requiring prompt professional attention to prevent further damage.
Why is water leaking from my furnace or air conditioner?
Water leaks commonly occur due to blocked condensate drains, frozen evaporator coils, or damaged drain pans. St. Louis's humid climate frequently creates condensate-related problems. Without proper repair, these leaks can result in property damage or complete system failure.
Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
When your system exceeds 10-15 years in age, requires frequent repairs, or faces repair costs approaching half the replacement value, installing a new system typically provides better long-term value. Modern equipment offers improved energy efficiency, quieter operation, and enhanced reliability-particularly beneficial for Missouri's demanding seasonal conditions.
How long does an HVAC system last in Missouri?
Air conditioning units typically operate effectively for 10-15 years, while furnaces generally last 15-20 years. Missouri's intense summers, harsh winters, and elevated humidity levels can reduce equipment lifespan without consistent professional maintenance. Properly maintained systems achieve longer service life and superior performance.
How can I lower my energy bill in St. Louis?
Begin with regular air filter replacement and consistent seasonal maintenance schedules. Additional energy-saving measures include sealing air leaks around your home, improving insulation, and installing programmable or smart thermostats. Aging HVAC systems frequently consume the most energy and benefit from replacement.
Is a high-efficiency HVAC system worth it in Missouri?
High-efficiency systems provide significant benefits for most homeowners, including superior humidity control, more consistent indoor temperatures, and reduced energy consumption during extreme weather conditions. The long-term energy savings and enhanced comfort typically justify the additional initial investment.
What is the best HVAC system for my home?
No single system suits every home's requirements. The appropriate equipment depends on your home's square footage, architectural design, insulation quality, comfort preferences, and available budget. Professional load calculations ensure proper system sizing and customization for your specific home rather than relying on estimates.
Is HVAC maintenance really worth it?
Regular maintenance provides substantial benefits by preventing unexpected equipment failures, reducing energy consumption, enhancing indoor air quality, and maximizing system lifespan. Most significant HVAC breakdowns occur when minor, preventable problems go unaddressed during routine service visits.
