Tired of furnace and heating repair? Consider adding an outdoor wood furnace to your heating system. An outdoor wood furnace is a piece of heating equipment installed outside of your home that can be integrated with your current furnace, boiler or other heating unit to make your home more comfortable. It improves the quality of your home heating and allows it to be more consistent, affordable and environmentally friendly.
Outdoor wood furnaces require less repairs because there are less parts that can malfunction. They are also more efficient, able to heat multiple buildings and easy to service—plus most homeowners can utilizing their own land’s wood to heat their home. That makes it environmentally friendly, since using wood to heat your home is a renewable resource, which reduces your carbon footprint.
MMT is the leading authorized Central Boiler dealer providing exceptional heating service to our customers. We help customers all over the Duluth area determine which outdoor wood furnace or wood pellet burner best meets their needs before professionally installing it—we’ll even pour the concrete slab.
At MMT, our team of heating pros highly recommends Central Boiler products to any customers looking for an alternative and safe way to heat their home. Our certified installers will bury the insulated pipes underground once it thaws in spring.

Established in 1984 and based in Greenbush, Minnesota, Central Boiler is North America's largest manufacturer of quality outdoor wood furnaces. Based upon a desire to create safer and more efficient heating products, the company's innovations and patents have established Central Boiler as a leader in product quality.
The Central Boiler outdoor wood boiler, outdoor wood furnace and corn furnace can heat 100% of your Duluth home and hot water. By virtually eliminating your heating costs, these furnaces can often pay for themselves in the first couple of years of use. The heating systems are beneficial for the environment because burning wood, wood pellets and corn is natural—this greatly reduces your carbon footprint and saves you money. Wood and corn are renewable resources and, when burned, result in no net increases in carbon dioxide.
The E-Classic model is a top seller among Duluth residents. It meets the Clean Air Regulation Emission Limits and generally uses 25 to 70% less wood compared to traditional wood furnaces and boilers. Central Boiler leads the industry with its commitment to stand behind its outdoor wood furnaces and offers a 25-Year Limited Warranty (not available on Pellet Burner or Maxim models).
MMT Heating & Cooling delivers alternative heating source parts and accessories to customers throughout the United States. As an authorized dealer of Central Boiler parts, we offer a complete line of products for forced air systems, wood boilers, wood stoves, direct plumbing, in-floor heating and domestic hot water heating.
The Classic Edge makes owning an outdoor wood furnace easier now more than ever. With more features than any other furnace on the market, the Classic Edge is the easiest outdoor wood furnace to own and operate, with the least amount of maintenance required.
The Firestar Combustion Controller automatically assess the furnace functions and optimizes for maximum productivity, increased efficiency and a cleaner burn. The controller is integrated with wi-fi so you can monitor your furnace from anywhere you have access to internet connection.
The patent-pending vertical Easy View™ Heat Exchanger includes a rear panel that removes without the requirement of tools. This works well for quick inspections of your wood furnace as well as easy access to maintain and clean it.
This EPA certified wood furnace is also resistant to corrosion and excels in heat transfer ability. These capabilities allow for longer burn times, saving you money and time. Keep in mind that burn times will vary based on the wood you are burning, ambient temperature, moisture content, and heat load.
The Classic outdoor wood furnace is located outside, typically 30 to 200 feet (but as far as 500 feet) away from your home or business, and works with an existing heating system. A water jacket surrounds the furnace firebox and heat exchanger and heated water is circulated to the home or building through insulated underground pipes. Water-to-air or water-to-water heat exchangers or direct circulation conveys the heat into the structure's forced-air furnace, boiler or radiant floor heating system. This allows for normal thermostatic control for safe, even, clean and comfortable heat. The ability to heat multiple buildings and domestic hot water can eliminate your heating bills. Outside burning removes the threat of devastating chimney fires, dangerous carbon monoxide or oxygen depletion which affects your indoor air quality. It also eliminates the smoke, ashes, odors and soot buildup on walls and ceilings inside your home that indoor burning creates.
All classic wood furnace models are also available as a Dual Fuel Ready model. This allows the furnace to be fitted to work with options other than wood including a propane burner, fuel oil, or natural gas. This Dual Fuel Ready feature comes standard on the CL7260 and Pellet Burner, but it is also available in all other classic models.
The E-Classic is the newest line offered by Central Boiler. The E-Classic uses a three-stage combustion process to burn wood so completely that combustion efficiencies approach 100%. With the patent-pending, self-cleaning heat exchanger, the E-Classic outdoor wood furnace produces extremely low emissions per BTU of heat delivered and is one of the cleanest ways to heat with wood.
The Maxim from Central Boiler is beneficial for the environment because burning wood pellets or shelled corn is natural. Both are renewable resources and, when burned, result in zero net increases in carbon dioxide. On the other hand, fossil fuels release carbon dioxide which would otherwise be trapped in the earth. The burning of fossil fuels causes a net increase in carbon dioxide which is believed to be responsible for the heat-trapping greenhouse effect. Make your mark and reduce your carbon footprint by having a Maxim outdoor wood furnace installed to heat your Duluth home.
In addition to the clean-burning characteristics, burning shelled corn further benefits the environment because it is typically grown locally. The small amount of ash left over from burning shelled corn in the Maxim can even be used to fertilize garden areas.
Wood pellets are environmentally friendly not only because of their clean-burning characteristics, but also because they are typically made from materials generated in saw mills or furniture manufacturing factories that were once discarded in landfills or left to rot on the forest floor. Plus they give off little to no ash when burned.

Steve is the sweetest guy. He came out to look at our unit knowing he was a 3rd quote, and that we were moving soon. He also taught me a couple things about A/C units and home maintenance. He was honest and responsive. Thanks again Steve!

MMT did an excellent job on our recent AC repair. They came out one of the hottest days of the year, the day before the 4th of July holiday weekend and arrived within 2 hours of my call. The repair person, Josh, was very professional, courteous and diagnosed the problem and reviewed several repair options with me. After discussing options, Josh repaired the AC unit and it is working like new and keeping us cool again. I can't say enough good things about this company and would not hesitate to call them again and recommend them highly.

I had a very unique situation happening with my pump seizing up and my lines freezing from my boiler. They were my last hope, they worked with me and made it affordable for me to purchase new lines and fittings and although I didn't have a truck available to bring the lines back to my home (45 minutes away) Scott kindly delivered them on his personal time and gas and then stayed in the dark to assist my handyman and make sure he was connecting everything properly. My water line had burst in my house and he located the leak and also isolated it so that I could have running water!!!!lSteve and Scott absolutely have made a customer for life. I cannot say enough good. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions About MMT Heating & Cooling
Is it a good idea to seal heating registers in my home?
We recommend leaving all your vents and registers open. Closing off registers to rooms you don’t use often causes your furnace system to release air unevenly and overwork itself as a result. By leaving registers open, air flow is allowed to evenly and efficiently heat your house.
How often do I need to replace my furnace filters?
Changing your furnace filter once a year during your annual tune-up is ideal, especially if your home does not have many air quality concerns. If you smoke indoors or have pets or allergies, we recommend changing your filter every six months to maintain cleaner air quality.
Bryant filters are more efficient than the selection at your local hardware store and MMT can help you find a filter for your system that will maximize your furnace’s cycling and airflow. Upgrade to a filter with a high AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating to save money on your utility costs.
Should I purchase a furnace or boiler with a larger capacity for added heating comfort?
Having a larger furnace or boiler installed in your home doesn’t mean your heating comfort will be any better. An oversized unit in your home won’t cycle properly, causing inefficient operation, more out-of-pocket costs and a shortened life cycle for your heating system.
Can an outdoor wood furnace be installed with my heating system?
An outdoor wood furnace can be easily integrated with any existing heating system. Whether you have a furnace or a boiler, MMT can design and install an outdoor wood furnace on your property to make your heating more cost-effective and energy-efficient. Our Duluth customers burn 30-50% less wood with a Central Boiler outdoor wood furnace, helping them save money and lower their carbon footprint.
How long will my furnace or boiler last?
Depending on the system, the average lifespan for both furnaces and boilers is about 15 years. As your heating system ages, it naturally loses efficiency, resulting in higher energy bills. Your system’s lifespan can be extended with routine maintenance from our experts at MMT Heating & Cooling. Keep up with maintenance checkups and plan ahead for a new system before your heat goes out in the middle of a Duluth winter!
What is the best way to conserve energy and reduce my energy bills?
Consider the following options to increase your air conditioning efficiency and reduce energy bills:
Upgrade to a high-efficiency system.
Install ceiling fans.
Schedule routine maintenance checkups.
Keep vents and registers unobstructed.
Install a programmable thermostat.
Adjust the temperature 5-8 degrees up or down depending on the season.
How often should I schedule maintenance on my home cooling system?
We highly recommend annual maintenance for your air conditioning system. Our maintenance includes a tune-up and cleaning to remove contaminants. Our technicians check your system for malfunctions and make sure it is operating efficiently. Tune-ups help you maintain a safe cooling system and extend its lifespan.
How long will my air conditioner last?
AC systems last between 10-15 years on average and can even last 20 years or more with proper care. With regular maintenance, we can keep your cooling system operating efficiently and perform important repairs before they become major issues.
Which cooling system is right for my home?
To properly outfit your Duluth home with an air conditioner, one of our cooling technicians will take measurements and listen to your home comfort needs. We will discuss your budget and assess efficiency ratings to narrow down the options and help you choose the right air conditioning system for your home. We can even help you save money by finding rebates!
What is the most efficient thermostat setting for air conditioning?
The most efficient setting for your air conditioner is the highest temperature at which you are comfortable. We recommend keeping your AC around 76-78 degrees when you are at home and bumping it up to 78-80 degrees while you’re away. Raising your thermostat setting by just two degrees can reduce your overall cooling costs by 5%.
Is it recommended to seal heating registers in the home?
It is recommended to leave all vents and registers open to allow even and efficient airflow, preventing the furnace from overworking.
How often should furnace filters be replaced?
Filters should ideally be replaced once a year during an annual tune-up, or every six months if you have pets, allergies, or smoke indoors.
Does installing a larger furnace or boiler improve heating comfort?
No, oversized units cycle improperly leading to inefficiency, higher costs, and shorter system life. Proper sizing is important.
Can an outdoor wood furnace be integrated with my existing heating system?
Yes, MMT Heating & Cooling can design and install an outdoor wood furnace compatible with your current furnace or boiler for cost-effective heating.
What is the typical lifespan of furnaces and boilers?
Furnaces and boilers usually last about 15 years; routine maintenance can extend their lifespan and maintain efficiency.
What are effective ways to conserve energy and reduce heating and cooling bills?
Options include upgrading to high-efficiency systems, installing ceiling fans, keeping vents unobstructed, routine maintenance, using programmable thermostats, and adjusting temperature settings seasonally.
What are MMT Heating & Cooling's regular business hours?
They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and closed on weekends.
