We had a very disappointing experience with Northlake Mechanical that ultimately resulted in us paying for an air conditioner twice. We contracted with Northlake Mechanical to install a new A/C to work with our existing Bryant variable-speed furnace, which we loved and which worked great. They installed a Goodman A/C and replaced our Bryant thermostat. We used the A/C for a couple of days before heating season started, but once we began using the furnace, we discovered that the new thermostat eliminated the variable-speed functionality that was one of the main reasons we had purchased the Bryant system. Three months after we first contacted Northlake about the issue, a technician reinstalled our original Bryant thermostat so we could regain the variable-speed operation for the winter. However, the Goodman A/C would not work with the Bryant thermostat. After that, Northlake sent multiple technicians to our home to troubleshoot the issue, but nothing resolved the incompatibility. Rather than correcting the incompatibility, Northlake repeatedly encouraged us to replace our Bryant furnace (which we saw no reason to spend money replacing a furnace that was working fine before they switched out the thermostat). After seven months, Northlake acknowledged that installing the Goodman A/C had been a mistake. However, they continued to insist there was no A/C that would work with our existing furnace and instead offered to replace our furnace with a Goodman furnace at their expense. We then contacted Custom Sheet Metal for a second opinion. They confirmed our Bryant furnace did not need to be replaced and that a Bryant A/C would work perfectly with it. They also found evidence of a leak, and installation issues with the Goodman system that were affecting its energy efficiency. We had given Northlake the opportunity to correct the problem by replacing the A/C, but they refused to do so. Since they maintained there was no compatible A/C available, we ultimately hired Custom Sheet Metal to install a Bryant A/C. It works exactly as we originally expected with our existing Bryant furnace. Northlake never refunded us, so we essentially paid for an air conditioner twice. Mistakes happen, but after the conflicting information, the installation of a new A/C unit in a space that didn’t provide for the unit to properly work, their trying to talk us into purchasing a new furnace, and their refusal to provide an acceptable solution, we cannot recommend Northlake Mechanical.

Cory Tim solved a plumbing issue for us today. He was professional and personable and efficient. We appreciated that he called to confirm our appointment and showed up on time, calling us when he was on the way. We have additional plumbing issues and a gas line repair and wil definitely call on Cory again.

Kudos to Cody at Northlake Mechanical in Manistee. I had an older model shower valve cartridge that went bad. Cody showed up on time and was personable. He diagnosed the problem quickly, showed me where to order the hard-to-find replacement part from, and showed me how to replace it. It saved me a second service call fee and allowed me to fix the issue myself on a weekend day. Customer service matters. Northlake has earned my future business. Give them a try!
