Kent County’s Recycling & Education Center serves as the primary materials recovery facility for residential recyclables generated in homes throughout West Michigan. A materials recovery facility (MRF) is a processing facility where recycling from curbside recycling bins and recycling drop-offs is sorted and prepared to be sold to downstream processors (papermills, smelters, etc.) in order to be made into something new. A total of 31,089 tons of mixed recyclables were processed here in 2019.
Our goal is to increase participation and accessibility of recycling services across Kent County in order to get us closer to our goal of reducing landfilled waste 20% by 2020 and 90% by 2030.
