Called to request electrical service performed. Was told that they charge $89 to come and provide estimate. Understand that $89 charge comes off the bill for the repair. But when asking what happens if I find their estimate high and decide to go with someone else? Hoover's response was there is an $89 charge to get an estimate for services.

Wanted to hire a local, long-standing family business, but they charge a $90 service fee just to give an estimate on a septic pump install. Many reputable licensed contractors in the area provide free quotes. Paying upfront just to see if a price is reasonable isn’t customer-friendly.

I have never been so insulted by a company I called to fix something! I had paid way too much in the first place for a new toilet installed and another rebuilt over a year ago. The rebuilt 1 was leaking againand the girl on the phone said it was covered under the warranty so I made an appt. As soon as the guy showed up several hours later he asked about the problem. I showed him and told him what was done last time. He immediately started telling me no that was not done. I said yes they pulled the toilet off to check the pipes below and I showed him the invoice where it said that and I was charged $315 just for that alone. He continued to tell me they didnt do that because there's no photo they took showing it. I said so you are telling me I am lying and the invoice and charge was wrong? Then he went in his van to call his supervisor. I couldn't believe this! He said well we'll have to disagree and its not covered under the warranty. I said thats not what i was told on the phone. So now you are saying you aren't going to fix it then? He didnt even look at the toilet, just went right to denying things were done by them. I was told I'd have to pay more. I said ok this was a waste of my day then because why would I have you fix it and pay more when it clearly wasnt done right the first time. He said he'll have his manager call me to discuss but of course they never did. so apparently my invoice and charge and warranty and words are all not true? Absolutely horrible treatment by a company after spending a couple thousand on different things over the last couple years!

My air conditioner went out, so I called Hoover. The technician, Patrick, arrived about an hour later, and he determined within a few minutes that the capacitor on the AC unit had died. He indicated that changing the capacitor COULD fix the issue, or it could reveal other issues, but this couldn't be determined until I agreed to the replacement. Patrick made it clear there was risk involved in this choice. I decided to take the $500 gamble. After I signed for the replacement, Patrick replaced the capacitor and ran a few more tests. He determined the AC unit was still not working properly. He then checked the furnace, and within a few minutes, he determined work costing approximately $4,000 would be needed before the AC could cool as intended. To my understanding, the issue with the furnace could have been observed without installing a new capacitor; consequently, it seems to me the $500 gamble was avoidable. I hope Hoover adjusts its approach to diagnostics to account for situations like mine. Note: I did receive a call back from the manager, and he refunded me for a fee that should have been waived from my bill, which I would not have caught otherwise.
