Tuff Shed is America's leading provider of installed storage buildings and garages. Since 1981, Tuff Shed has been delivering on its customer promise of providing products of lasting value through the use of innovative engineering, proven construction techniques, and expert consultative services.
Our property was in need of a storage solution/workshop. Our original plan was a garage addition (not through Tuff Shed), however, the quotes and plans we received were unshockingly well beyond our budget and not to mention there were setback constraints on one boundary line (yes, more $). We pivoted to a shed solution and chose to visit a Tuff Shed location near our home.
Our sales person Rick did an outstanding walk through of the basics of the product and we shared a bit of the vision for what we wanted. We zeroed in on a show room model and then sat down with Rick to pull together a 1st design. We started with a gable roof 12x16 floor model that effectively morphed to a lean-to design (single pitch roof). We added four feet in length for a 12x20. We also added a foot in total height since we wanted to avoid exceeding 20' in length. We chose the keyless door handle along with a goblin blue/black trim paint scheme.
Once signed off on the design, a down payment was made, and we confirmed our responsibilities for the build (site prep, leveling). We wanted a second opinion on the our location as we are on a small slope, however, were not interested in hauling in more gravel for leveling (generally the golden standard for shed bases here in Southern Maine). Rick stopped by and gave us some piece of mind that our location was in good shape in addition to help coordinate the permit with the town. Since our location was more central to our back yard, defining the right boundary line was no longer needed. Since the shed is in blocks as opposed to a poured concrete slab, there was no longer a need for a drainage plan which was a constraint when the garage was a consideration.
On build day, the team were rock stars. We found out the foreman, Pete, had been building sheds in the region for over 30 years. Just a great group of guys all around. The materials show up prefabricated based on your build spec and the team pieces it together. Our build took a day in a half. Let that sync in folks who have waited weeks and weeks on end to have a crew complete a job on your property: a day in a half- done. We also had a great experience working with Shella and Tim in Michigan who helped us sort out the financing for the 2nd two thirds of our purchase.
We are beyond pleased with the finished product. The shed has a stunning look, is tucked away in our back yard in a way that would not have been possible with a garage, and with proper upkeep will last quite a long time. Our plan is to use this as a staging and work area for a future one man plumbing business. Conservatively, the shed build was maybe a 1/3 of the garage build cost and a fraction of a percentage of the headache, mostly due to a well run project process by the Tuff Shed team and build team.
Pro tips- We were pretty engaged in this process and you should be too. Know your responsibilities on site prep, take pictures, share with your sales team. We found all of this easy, but could see where someone who is busy could find that difficult. Just ask if you're not sure and don't wait until the last minute. Consider that the build team will be bringing heavy pre fabricated materials to your home, so planning for a trailer to get as close to your job site as possible along with allowing space for the team to lay out and stage the materials are considerations in your initial planning for the build. Seriously though guys, Tuff Shed could not have made this process easier.
Thank you again to Rick, Pete and team!! Tom Saurey, you have a fantastic team here in Southern Maine. Do take care of them and do continue keep your company family and employee owned. These are the kind of American businesses folks should know and trust not only to patronize, but to work for, or engage in business.

Rick Hazelton was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful with the selection and design of our Tuff Shed. He explained the options, shared his experience and reviewed the final design with us. He stayed in communication with us and assisted with a minor changed order.
The Installation team was excellent, very efficient and helpful as well. They even handled a minor kit issue and kept us on track for a one day installation.
I can’t say enough about the product and team at Tuff Shed. No regrets with this purchase and looking forward to enjoying this shed for years to come.
