Mainline were out doing a neighbors house, and I walked over asking for a quote. They came over 30 minutes later and gave me an incredibly fair quote. They did amazing work, they got 800 sq ft done in about 3-4 hours. They used a thicker asphalt pour then I even asked for, as well as did more surface area, truly incredible work, and they were very professional. The work was immaculate with the edges being perfect up to the curb, not a millimeter was off. I appreciate their hard work and willingness to fit me in their schedule.

Had the work done while on vacation and they were able to finish everything even though it rained the first part of the week I was gone. They did everything just the way it was described and in a timely fashion.

We recently had our driveway widened and replaced by Mainline, and Derek and his team delivered exceptional results. The project included extending the drainage pipe in the ditch, adding soil to support the new section, and repaving the entire driveway. Although we had to obtain our own Montgomery County right‑of‑way permit, Derek coordinated closely with the inspectors to ensure everything met the required standards. The price was higher than some other estimates, but the quality of the workmanship made it well worth the investment.

We hired Derek and his team to repair and re-asphalt our driveway. His team was professional, communicative, and punctual. We had Derek redo our aprons with pavers. The paver entrance completely transformed our curb appeal—the stone work is immaculate, level, and seamlessly integrates right into the fresh asphalt. You can tell they take immense pride in their craftsmanship and don't cut corners on sub-base prep or compaction.
They completed the job right on schedule, kept the site clean, and left zero mess behind. If you're looking for top-tier asphalt work or custom masonry, look no further. Highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions About Mainline Paving & Masonry
What is the best surface for a driveway?
The most durable driveway surfaces include asphalt, concrete, and pavers. While many paving companies specialize in a single type of surface, Mainline Paving & Masonry offers expertise in all three and more. For personalized advice on the best surface for your specific needs, we encourage you to contact one of our experts. As trusted driveway contractors in Gaithersburg, MD, we're committed to providing you with the best solution.
How thick should driveway paving be?
The thickness of driveway paving varies based on several factors. For asphalt driveways, the National Asphalt Pavement Association recommends a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or gravel bound with asphalt cement. Residential driveways typically require two to three inches of asphalt, with three inches necessary for driveways that will bear large trucks or heavy equipment. A proper foundation is crucial, with six to eight inches of granular base aggregate underneath the asphalt. At Mainline Paving & Masonry, we ensure that every driveway we construct has the appropriate thickness and foundation for long-lasting durability.
Is it fine to pave over an existing driveway?
Paving over an existing driveway is possible, but it depends on the structural integrity of the current surface. At Mainline Paving & Masonry, we carefully assess each driveway to determine if an asphalt overlay is a suitable solution. When appropriate, our contractors apply a tack coat to the existing asphalt surface to ensure proper adhesion of the new layer. For more information about this process or to discuss your specific driveway needs, we invite you to contact us.
How long should you stay off the driveway after paving?
Generally, a newly paved driveway requires 24 hours before it can be used. However, during periods of very warm weather, we recommend waiting 48 hours as the asphalt surface cools more slowly. For more detailed information about our paving services and aftercare instructions, please don't hesitate to contact Mainline Paving & Masonry.
How does the weather affect the asphalt curing process?
Weather conditions significantly impact the asphalt curing process. Extreme cold can prevent proper binding of the asphalt, while extreme heat may cause new asphalt to melt, slough, or bruise, impeding proper curing. Many driveway and parking lot issues can be traced back to problems during the curing process. At Mainline Paving & Masonry, we carefully consider weather conditions to ensure optimal asphalt installation and curing.
