1 STAR — EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Our approximately $18,500 remodeling project with Black and White Kitchen and Bath began on April 21, 2026, and included kitchen and two bathroom countertops, a kitchen backsplash, conversion of an old telephone-booth-style shower into shelving, removal of a garden tub, and construction of a walk-in shower.
The finished work may look good, but getting to completion was an exhausting and unnecessarily difficult experience.
Throughout this project, we experienced repeated delays, inconsistent communication, scheduling problems, workmanship issues requiring correction, and numerous punch-list items. There were times when workers arrived late or schedules changed without adequate communication. There were also periods when progress stalled because materials or supplies were unavailable.
One of my biggest frustrations was having to repeatedly follow up myself to determine what was happening with MY project. For an $18,500 renovation, I expected proactive project management—not for the homeowner to continually chase people for information.
There were also workmanship and property issues along the way that required attention and correction. Our lawn was damaged during construction and had to be addressed. The final punch-list work was not completed until August 11, nearly four months after the project began. Black and White did ultimately return and complete the punch-list items and seed the areas of the lawn that had been damaged, and I believe it is important to acknowledge that.
However, completing corrective work at the end does not erase the experience required to get there.
The situation became serious enough that I filed a formal complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC). That complaint is pending, and I will allow MHIC to independently evaluate the circumstances and documentation.
I have extensive documentation of this project, including photographs, communications, dates, project updates, payments, deficiencies, corrective work, and the final punch-list completion.
My criticism is therefore not based on one bad day or a minor inconvenience. It is based on the overall management of a project lasting from April 21 through August 11.
When a homeowner spends approximately $18,500 on a renovation, reasonable expectations include professional communication, dependable scheduling, appropriate supervision, protection of the homeowner's property, quality workmanship, and timely correction when something goes wrong.
In my experience, Black and White fell significantly short of those expectations during too much of this project.
I am pleased that the work has finally reached completion and that the company ultimately addressed the final punch-list items. But based on the delays, communication failures, repeated follow-up required, corrective work, property damage, and overall stress involved in reaching completion, I cannot recommend Black and White Kitchen and Bath based on my experience.
Potential customers should carefully document their project, maintain copies of all communications, photograph the work throughout construction, closely monitor the payment schedule, and insist that commitments and corrective work be documented in writing.
The final product is only one part of a remodeling experience. How a contractor communicates, manages problems, protects your property, respects your time, and gets you to that final product matters just as much.
** to all consumers updated today 08/14/2026 additional photos to support my review- in addition had accidentially uploaded an invalid pic of the shower- I deleted it and made sure the correct image was showing for the record.
