ZERO STARS — Extremely Disappointed With Closet America
On July 29, 2026, I met with Closet America sales representative Samantha Slagle regarding a new closet system and shelving for my pantry. I explained from the beginning that I was initially looking for an estimate because I planned to have wood flooring installed and thought I should wait until the flooring was completed before moving forward with the closet.
Samantha specifically told me that I did not need to wait. She assured me that I could have the closet installed first and that my flooring installers would be able to work around the closet system afterward. Because this was an important concern, I asked her again if she was certain. She confirmed that, yes, the flooring installers would definitely be able to work around the new closet. Based on that representation, I decided to move forward with Closet America.
Approximately one week before installation, Samantha called and asked whether I had installed the wood flooring yet. I told her no and reminded her that she had told me the flooring could be installed after the closet because the flooring installers could work around it. I specifically asked whether there was a problem, and she told me everything was fine and that she was simply confirming.
Unfortunately, once the closet was installed, I was told something completely different. The installer informed me that the wood flooring could not simply be installed around the closet as I had been told. Instead, I would need to contact Closet America to have the bottom portion of the closet removed before the flooring could be installed—and I would be charged an additional fee for them to come back and do so.
This was extremely frustrating because the timing of the flooring installation was discussed before I signed the contract, and I relied on the information provided by the sales representative when deciding to move forward.
I was also very uncomfortable with one of the installers who entered my home because there was an extremely strong odor that smelled like marijuana. Regardless of the cause, having a contractor enter my residence with such a strong odor as if he had just left a marijuana dispensary was concerning and did not feel professional at all!
Even more disappointing is the actual closet design. After spending money on a custom closet system, I literally have less usable space than I had before. I cannot properly fit the clothing and shoes that were previously stored in the closet. In my opinion, the space was mismeasured, poorly planned, or seriously misjudged during the design process. A custom closet should improve storage and functionality—not leave the customer wondering where to put belongings that fit in the closet before the renovation.
I contacted customer service regarding these issues and was told that someone would call me back. No one did.
What makes this experience particularly disappointing is that I previously used Closet America at another property in 2020 and had a much better experience. Based on that prior experience, I felt comfortable hiring the company again. Unfortunately, the level of sales guidance, design planning, installation experience, and customer service I received this time was nowhere near what I experienced previously.
Had I been given accurate information about the flooring from the beginning, I would have waited to install the closet. Had the closet been properly designed around my actual storage needs, I would not now have less functional space than I started with. And after bringing these concerns to customer service, the very least I expected was the promised return phone call.
Unfortunately, if I could give zero stars, I would. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Closet America. I strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get every representation regarding flooring, measurements, design, future modifications, and additional fees in writing before signing a contract.

Scheduled my day around a confirmed appointment. They were a no-show. Called and spoke with dispatch. The person who confirmed my appointment never put it in the system. Dispatch was supposed to call management and get back to me. No one has called me back with an apology or resolution. They obviously do not care about my business and or anyone that I know. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising you can have. Very disappointing.

My install was completed yesterday, a mudroom storage and closet. The design process was easy plus they were able to deliver and install two week ahead of schedule.

There was nobody at the front desk so I could not enter the business. Call the 800 line and got disconnected. It seems that they are not ready for business.... And for them not to understand the highway noise is very loud so it is hard to hear is a total customer service failure when we have to call to get into.
