We have a maintenance/subscription plan with Michael and Sons. The first time we have ever had to use it was today. Our HVAC system is non operable and we are in the middle of a heat wave. Despite having been paying Michael and Sons a monthly fee in case something like this happening, the soonest they were willing to send someone out for service was 8 days from now. We called Len the Plumber and they are coming out to fix our HVAC system this morning. We feel completely scammed by Michael and Sons.
Bobson Samurai should earn even one star. I called the company because our water pipes are leaking. He came check the pipe and tell us this is not his job. Then he started to ask us to buy the membership and tell us if we buy the membership it will cover the cost of the repair the pipe. He stay in the basement about 45 minutes, and ask us to join the membership about 30 times ( even more ). He is sales man, NOT a plumber. As I know the membership fee doesn't cover to replace the water pipes. He is very tricky and uncomfortable knowledgeable plumber. He ask us to sign the contract to fix the things (attached in the picture). He never said anything related about leaking water. He really waisted my time.
James from Michael & Son provided outstanding service from start to finish. He was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to thoroughly explain everything he found without making me feel pressured. He arrived on time, worked efficiently, and made sure all of my questions were answered before he left. It’s refreshing to work with someone who genuinely cares about doing quality work and making sure the customer feels confident in the service. I highly recommend James and would gladly request him again for any future HVAC needs. Thank you for the excellent experience!

I felt like my technician was a little condescending in the questions he asked regarding the fixes I needed. I know very little about the mechanics behind anything electric in my home but that’s why I call a professional. Yes, I changed the lightbulb. No, I do not know exactly what was done prior to buying the home. As far as service, I was asking essentially if more outdoor outlets could be placed (no) and also asked for a ceiling fan to be installed (already had the fan) and outlet on our back porch to be replaced and weatherized. The total was going to be over $800 for the fan and outlet replacement. Instead to have an outlet replaced, it cost $500. $100+ just for the weather proof dome that covers the outlet. Which are sold for about $20 at any hardware store. The work was done quickly but next time I’ll watch a video of it and replace the outlet myself. Just a working mom who wanted to outsource something.

On Monday, June 8th, I had an appointment for a new HVAC and separate water heater installation. The technicians were supposed to arrive between 8-10:30. I got a call from the tech around 10 letting me know they’d be there around 11. So much for scheduling. The water heater tech arrived first, and advised me that no one told him that my washer/dryer that was in front of the water heater would need to be moved. I told him that I had asked about this when I agreed to have the work done, but he said no one told him, whim meant he’d need to call and get another tech to help him. Tic tock tic tock…Then, the HVAC techs arrived. They looked at the unit to be replaced and told me that the wrong unit had been ordered. They had to switch out the unit they brought w/another. Tic tock k tic tock…It’s about 12:30 now.
Anyway, the water heater tech got his job done in a couple of hours and it seems to be working fine. The HVAC guys - not so much. They shorted out my electricity twice and had to reset my box down in the basement. Then, the thermostat wasn’t working correctly. Now, it’s about 6pm. Supposedly they needed a part, which another tech brought. And by 11pm, the AC wasn’t working correctly running. Just in time for the extreme heat predicted for Thursday and Friday.
But - yesterday - not even 48 hours later - I got an alert on my phone which is connected to the thermostat telling me that the AC had an error and had been shut off. So I called (admittedly a little miffed since I had just paid over $10k for the system) and asked what was going on. The customer service person said the guys evidently knew they needed a part and supposedly told me I’d need another appointment. Unfortunately. they never bothered to let me know. So Mike and Sons say they’ll send a tech later that evening, which they do, and he fooled w/the system for a while and concluded that he needed a “high pressure switch” to fix the unit. He said he’d schedule me for Friday 8-10am (I have an office retreat scheduled for today (Thursday), and he’d make a note about the part they needed. At that point, it was 82 degrees in my condo. And it was 82 degrees when I went to bed w/the ceiling fan and and another fan blowing on me. I slept fitfully and was most unhappy when my alarm went off at 4:15 am.
Michael & Sons wanted a review, and now they have it. Two days ago, I paid over $10k for a new HVAC system that doesn’t work (maybe it fell off the back of a Pinto). On a “weather alert” day for heat, I get to go home to an oven and sleep in it until someone shows up on Friday AM. In my opinion, that bites my butt. How DARE they do this? No, I’m not recommending them. In fact, I say “run away” as quickly as possible.
The least they could do is offer to cover a hotel room for tonight.
