Used them numerous times over the past near 20 years for routine septic pumping. They are, and have always been, easy to reach, and prompt with service. Technicians have always been professional, personable, and informative. I enjoy going to the office to pay, because I love the office pups! Have recommended them to others, and will continue to give them our business in the coming years.

It looks like my review got deleted but I bought a new house in 2023 and it failed the septic inspection. The seller used Chase so I figured I would have them quote a new septic system which was required for my loan to be approved. Their communication was AWFUL. They never returned my emails or phone calls. The quote they provided was almost 30 grand and it did not have any pricing for materials...huge red flag...and also it wasn't accepted by the Lender. I requested they redo it correctly. They told me they would but as the deadline got closer they were still not returning my calls. I went to their office a week before my closing date to make sure they were going to have it ready. The staff actually laughed at me bc they thought it was funny how nervous I was and they assured me I had nothing to worry about...
They never provided the correct info in time. I missed my closing date on my home and because of that I had to pay nearly 1000 dollars to have my paperwork redone and my mortgage rate locked for another 30 days. I had another company do all the paperwork in two weeks and we went with them. Chase then had the audacity to call me back and complain that I didn't use them!

Has septic system pumped. The service technician did a great job digging up the cover and covering it back up after. Friendly and professional. Top notch.
Frequently Asked Questions About Chase Harris Septic Services
What do I do if there is a septic odor in my house?
First, make sure there isn’t a dry drain in a sink or shower by running water for a couple of minutes in each. A dry drain will allow gases from the septic system to get into your home. If there is still an odor, call your plumber for further evaluation.
What do I do if there is a septic odor outside?
An odor outside could come from several different sources, such as the vent on your roof, the vent over the leach field, breakout over the leach area, or from a neighbor’s septic system. Try to determine the source or call our office for help and suggestions for a solution.
What is a breakout?
A breakout occurs when the septic water (effluent) no longer gets absorbed through the leaching area. It comes to the surface, causing odors and health hazards.
How often should I pump my tank?
We recommend pumping every one to two years, depending on its age and household habits, to remove the scum and sludge layers that accumulate.
Do we need to be home while our septic tank is pumped?
We can do your septic pumping service while you are out of the house.
Does Chase-Harris Septic Service help with Title 5 inspections?
We absolutely can help with a Title 5 inspection of your septic tank.
Are there state tax credits available for Title 5 work?
Yes, there is a tax credit available! Check out the Mass.gov website to learn information about this tax credit.
What’s the blue stuff at the bottom of the portable toilet?
The blue stuff is a powerful deodorizer with disinfectant properties and lye that assists in breaking down the bodily waste. This helps eliminate the odors associated with your bodily functions and helps the portable toilet stay cleaner longer. And yes, it is actually called blue stuff.
How much space do I need for a portable toilet?
A standard portable toilet is about 90in x 44in x 44in. A handicap accessible toilet is about 91in x 67in x 67in.
If I have to rent a portable toilet in the winter, will the water freeze?
No, we use a special mixture of salt water along with the blue stuff that prevents it from freezing. There is an additional fee of $10.00 per unit per month for this during the winter, from November 1 – March 31.
How do I know how many toilets and sinks I need?
Usually, about one standard unit and one handicap unit per 60 people is more than sufficient for about 2 hours. Even just one handicap accessible unit is sufficient. We have a tool for that! Please see the usage guide* for reference. (*from the Portable Sanitation Association International). All portable toilet units come with a hand sanitizer inside the unit.
For jobsites, OSHA standards are one seat and one urinal per 40 workers. We have units with both inside, and also units with just seats inside.
Can I put personal wipes into the tank of the portable unit? It’s technically not being flushed.
No, please do not put any wipes into the unit. The wipes clog the hose the technician uses to clear the tanks which could end up causing the wastewater tank to blow.
I am having an event in a big city and I am concerned with vandalism. Am I liable for any vandalism that occurs to my rental?
We do have locks available for the units. We also have rigging kits that can attach the units to the ground to help deter knockdowns. With that being said, some vandalism you very well may not be held responsible for. However, if your unit is broken or damaged during the event, you may incur damage/replacement fees. If your unit is broken during delivery, you will NOT be held responsible for that.
Do I need to be there for delivery and removal?
That is entirely up to you. When you order your rental units, you can let us know where you’d like the units placed and whether or not you’d like to be contacted before delivery by the driver.
What does the technician do when they service my rental?
The technician will be sanitizing the interior of the unit, removing all the waste from the holding tank and replacing it with new water and blue stuff, and restocking the toilet paper, paper towels, urinal screens, scent rings, hand sanitizer, etc. During the warm seasons, the technician will also be washing the exterior of the units.
How do I know if my rentals are being serviced every week?
Inside each portable toilet is a service log our technicians date and initial each time they service the unit. We also use SLATE pages, an app that tracks all of our units. The app records each time a unit is delivered, removed, serviced, and swapped. The app can also be used by you. You scan the tag, and it can let us know if a unit needs to be serviced, if a unit has been knocked down, if you’re happy with the rental, or if you’re unhappy.
I want to put signs on the units. Can I do that?
Yes, as long as they don’t damage the units and the adhesive you use removes easily and the sign doesn’t cover any Chase/Harris signs. Please do not use drills, nails or staples to apply any signage for your events.
Do you donate any units for charitable causes?
Chase/Harris is committed to giving back when we can, especially locally. Please contact us to see if we can assist you with your cause in anyway.
What should I do if there is a septic odor inside my house?
Run water in each sink or shower for a few minutes to ensure drains are not dry, which can allow septic gases in. If the odor persists, contact a plumber for further evaluation.
What might cause a septic odor outside my home and how should I address it?
Outdoor odors can originate from the roof vent, leach field vent, leach area breakout, or neighbor's septic system. Try to identify the source or call our office for assistance with solutions.
How often should I have my septic tank pumped?
Pumping is recommended every one to two years, depending on tank age and household habits, to remove accumulated scum and sludge.
Do I need to be home during septic tank pumping?
No, the septic pumping service can be performed while you are out of the house.
Does Chase Harris Septic Services offer Title 5 inspections and related state tax credits?
Yes, we provide Title 5 inspections and there is a Massachusetts state tax credit available for this work. Refer to Mass.gov for more information.
What are the dimensions and winter considerations for portable toilet rentals?
Standard units measure approximately 90in x 44in x 44in, handicap units are larger. In winter, a special saltwater mixture prevents freezing, with an additional $10/month fee from November 1 to March 31.
How do I determine the number of portable toilets and sinks needed for an event?
For events, about one standard and one handicap unit per 60 people is sufficient for 2 hours. For jobsites, OSHA requires one seat and one urinal per 40 workers. All units include hand sanitizer.
