I called Accurate Baker Elman for annual maintenance for 2 oil-fired steam boilers. Work was completed 10/12/2026. I asked what the cost would be and I remember being told $399 per boiler. When the technician arrived he said the service would be $1600! Evidently there are multiple charges that weren't mentioned: Plumbing dispatch fee, cleaning/maintenance on the oil-burning side plus "conditioning" the steam boiler. I understand that regular maintenance is an expense--and I'm prepared to pay it-- but this feels deceptive: low-ball quote with the caveat that if additional work is needed, there will be extra charge. Of course that's true. I don't expect free repairs. But I specifically asked about price and didn't hear anything about "conditioning the steam side" until the technician was there to do the work. otherwise the technician was prompt, cleaned up after himself, answered my questions, etc. I assume the work was done properly so that would have been more stars in the review but I didn't get an honest, good-faith estimate of the charges when I asked for it. Honesty is important.

I received excellent service from both Jake and Frank in response to my no heat call to Baker-Elman. Both were polite and provided clear explanations of their thinking.

As usual, John did a great job with our repair. He was here timely, quickly did a quality repair and left the area neat. He had a great recommendation to add an additional ball valve to make future service much easier.
