I’ve been very patient throughout this process, but I feel it’s important to share our experience with Schwartz Heating & Cooling.
Our new upstairs HVAC was installed July 13–14, and problems started immediately. The unit had to be taken apart to get into the attic, the roof exhaust was installed crooked and had to be corrected, and the attic trim was damaged. My daughter missed softball while we waited for the issues to be addressed.
On July 15, the unit ran approximately 22 hours without reaching the set temperature. On July 16, Schwartz found a Stage 2 error, leaking coil and valve issue. We also began having condensation around the vent. By July 21, the unit was running 20–24 hours per day. The attic opening was repaired July 23.
While we were on vacation in Florida, on August 5 our Nest sent a smoke alert. My parents went to the house and found all the smoke detectors going off, although there was no visible smoke. The thermostat also lost power. We ultimately cut our family vacation short because we were concerned about the HVAC system and safety of our home.
On August 9, Schwartz found a blown fuse and suggested an electrical wire may have been touching something, potentially causing a short which potentially blew the fuse. That was extremely concerning, especially knowing this may have happened while our family was away and not something to expect on a new unit.
On August 10, Schwartz ran new thermostat wiring, but the unit shut down again shortly after the technician left. After speaking with Justin who was empathic, mentioned he’d “make it right” and another appointment, they determined the outside unit had a defect and needed to be replaced. The replacement was installed August 21 and has thankfully worked properly since.
I do appreciate Schwartz making efforts to resolve the situation. They reduced a labor charge (which they did waive but embarrassing to offer since it was a new unit Schwartz installed), provided two $50 Texas Roadhouse gift cards and added another year to the warranty. However, those gestures don’t make up for the time, frustration and inconvenience involved.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t our first issue with Schwartz. Our downstairs unit previously left our house around 57 degrees overnight with two young children. That issue was corrected.
I’m not saying everyone will have the same experience, and our replacement unit is currently working as it should. However, when spending significant money on a new HVAC system, you expect it to be installed properly, work properly and, most importantly, be installed safely.
My daughter missed softball, we rearranged work, and we ultimately cut our family vacation short because we were concerned about the safety of our home. I’m leaving this review simply to document our experience and give potential customers an honest account of what we experienced.
