I ordered a whole home generator from HCE in the first full week of August. Ordered it on a Tuesday, they had my generator set in place, the gas line connected, and told me that the electricians would be here on the next Thursday. They have a contractor they are using, and the guy came out to see what was needed to connect it. I have the transfer switch, all they need is conduit and wire. That Thursday evening the contractor shared the quote with me with what the labor and parts would be. He sent it to HCE and it wasn't until this past Tuesday that the quote was approved by them. I'd normally understand, but I am still without power today Aug 22nd, the generator I purchased is just a lump sitting out there. I called the contractor, the customer service person told me of the quote approval had only been done this week on Tuesday. So, one the worst case scenarios happened 2 and a half weeks ago, and I can't power my home, or use my water because it's a well. This is madness. As for Nipsco, the day the contractor fixed my riser, they had been there just before it was done, cut the lines to my house, and restored power to the rest of the neighborhood. I called NIPSCO as soon as he was done to have that same crew reconnect me, and of course, they haven't for the entire time since the storm. The EXACT reason I bought the generator has happened, and I'm here, waiting for NIPSCO or for the electricians to mount the transfer switch that is already here, and run pipe and wire into the box.

My husband had an appointment scheduled for today and the technician cleaned something and got the generator running but not 20 minutes after he left it went out and did not start back up. Called to have them come back and am waiting..waiting...and waiting. Probably won't even get fixed. What a waste of money and a huge disappointment.

Avoid Home Comfort Experts. I recently had 2 estimates for a new ac unit and I ended up going with the quote that was $1,500 more based on the high level of service Adam said his company provides. He also showed me pictures of shoddy work from his competitors and pictures of what quality work should look like. As well as pictures of his company's training facility. I was completely oversold. Adam said his techs do a thorough job making sure everything is installed correctly, working properly and cleaned before leaving. He also said all the work would be done in one day. None of this was true. That's the short version but if you want more details keep reading.
For context my duct work and air handler are in the attic and they haven't been used/worked in over 10 years. The vents are in the ceiling and part of the install was to have the ducts cleaned.
When the techs finished the job I walked in the house and noticed how loud the air was coming through the vents. I quickly realized the vents were still closed because I hadn't used the ac in over 10 years. When the tech and I walked around and started opening the vents, dust obviously started blowing from the ceiling to the counter tops, furniture and floor. None of that dust was cleaned. I mentioned the duct cleaning and he said a different tech comes out for that on a different day. Again, Adam said everything will be done in one day. Then I told the tech the air wasn't coming out cold. He said it just needs time to run. So I took his word and he left. After about an hour the air out of the vents was barely 10° cooler than the room temperature. I called back and he said if it's still like that tomorrow to call back. Next morning I call back and report the same problem but I added that the air out of the vents smells like attic air. A tech shows up and confirms something is wrong and he needs to order a part. I asked about the smell but he wanted to fix the cooling problem first and deal with the odor later. The next morning I decided to see for myself what could be causing the smell and I found a gap about 2 inches by 14 inches on the intake side of the air handler where they connected the duct. Air was also leaking on the supply end. I didn't want to deal with the odor and I had chrome hvac tape so I patched the gap and leaks and I resolved the odor problem from the vents. I think that should have been caught by the installers and the next day technician. I know it was hot in the attic but it was hot for me too. I can add more and my unit still isn't working but I'm going to end with a recap. The unit wasn't tested properly before leaving. The ducts weren't properly attached to the new unit. They didn't clean up after opening the vents. They didn't inform me the duct cleaning was a different set of guys on a different day. This level of work can be found far cheaper than what I paid. Save your money and stay away from HCE.
