I gave the 1-star review because my experience with this rental caused a significant delay and created problems for both my business and my customer.
I rented a 30’ push-around man lift and trailer from Sunbelt in Aurora for a customer job. I picked the lift up at approximately 12:00 PM. Once we arrived at the customer’s home, we positioned the lift, set the outriggers, connected the battery, and the lift would not operate at all.
I contacted Sunbelt and was asked several questions to determine whether it may have been user error. I explained that the lift was properly positioned, the outriggers were set, and the battery was connected, but the lift was completely unresponsive. Sunbelt sent a technician to the jobsite, but the technician did not arrive until approximately 4:30 PM. After inspecting the lift, the technician found that a fuse was blown.
This means the equipment I was provided was not operational when I received it, which caused several hours of delay on a scheduled customer job. I returned the lift the next morning at approximately 9:00 AM, which was well within the 24-hour rental period. I was originally quoted $407 for the lift and trailer, but I was charged $445.
My concern is that I was charged more than the quoted amount, despite the fact that the lift had a mechanical/electrical issue that was not caused by me and prevented the equipment from being used as intended for several hours. If the additional charge was related to the technician visit or repair of Sunbelt’s own equipment, I do not believe that is appropriate.
I understand equipment issues can happen, but in this case the lift was not ready for use, the delay affected my job, and the final charge was higher than quoted. That is why I left the review I did.

I had a similar experience to the guy below. I rented a lift for one day. I called it off for same-day pick up - they then said we never called it off after final use and had to go back and forth.
This time around, we used Herc Rentals right in Naperville, and they were incredible—efficient, cost-effective, and great communication.
I gave them two stars cause they ended up (after over a month) somewhat fixing their mistake. I would highly recommend anyone who needs something to go right to Herc Rentals.

Is a deposit required for a reservation?
For customers without a line of credit, Sunbelt Rentals does not require a deposit to rent tools and equipment. However, you will be asked for payment information when you make your reservation. Your credit or debit card will not be charged for the rental period (one ((1)) day minimum) until you pick up the equipment.
For Credit Customers, we will secure a deposit for your reservation. This deposit will be held within your account until the rental equipment is returned and the contract closed. Apply for a credit account here.
If your project is quick and you only need the equipment for a few hours, Sunbelt Rentals does offer a Rapid Return rate. Return the equipment within four (4) hours of the pickup time and we will refund the difference of the Rapid Return rate. Rates will vary based on product. What if I need to keep my equipment longer?
If you need assistance, please contact the branch of the equipment rental and they can extend the rental for you. When you keep the equipment longer, we will add the additional time and charges to your contract and credit card. Please refer to the rental contract, where the day, week and 4-week rates are shown for each piece of tool and equipment.
Can I return rented equipment at any location?
Typically, equipment should be returned to the same location where you initially rented it. If you need to return it to a different location, please contact the store where you rented the equipment for guidance. It’s advisable to call ahead so we can assist you in finding a convenient alternative location for your return. Your convenience is our priority.
What is the cost for the delivery of equipment to my location?
The delivery charge is calculated based on the category and class of equipment, the location of the rental location, the distance of the project site from the rental location.
Can I get tools and equipment delivered to me?
Yes, Sunbelt Rentals offers convenient delivery options from our extensive network of locations for a reasonable fee. When making a reservation, simply select the delivery option. During the reservation process, you can specify the delivery drop-off date and time, as well as your estimated equipment pickup date. The estimate is for our planning purposes and not a final date.
To initiate our equipment pickup service, you must confirm the end of your rental via the app or by phone. Additionally, if you have specific delivery instructions or prefer a designated contact person for coordination, please include those details when submitting your reservation.
For businesses utilizing a commercial credit account, associated delivery and pickup fees will be reflected in your invoice.
