Had a horrible experience here this morning. One of the employees told me I could load some scrap wood that another customer had dropped off because it was in good enough shape to use for one of my projects. These were just small pieces, around 3 feet long or less, and probably less than 200 pounds total. After unloading my trash, I loaded the wood exactly as I had been instructed. When I went across the scale to leave, another employee approached me and immediately accused me of trying to cheat the scale. I explained that I had been given permission by another employee to take the wood. At no point was I told that I needed to go back through the scales before loading it or that there was any special procedure. I simply followed the instructions I was given. I spoke with management afterward, and while they told me the employee was “just looking out for the company,” I still had to unload all of the wood, go back through the scales, and then load it all again. I’ve been a regular customer here, so this was extremely disappointing. What bothered me most wasn’t the misunderstanding—it was being immediately accused of being dishonest instead of someone simply asking what was going on. For context, the wood wouldn’t have changed what I paid anyway. My load was still well under a ton, and I was already paying the $40 minimum charge. There was no financial benefit to me in trying to “cheat the scale.” If the employee had approached me respectfully and explained there was a policy I wasn’t aware of, this entire situation could have been avoided. Instead, I was treated like I was trying to scam the business after following another employee’s instructions. Because of this experience, I’ll be taking my business to the Newton County Landfill instead.
