Cooling Systems Built for Georgia Summers Air Conditioning in Athens for consistent comfort during extended heat and high humidity conditions Summer temperatures in Athens regularly climb into the low nineties with humidity levels that make indoor spaces feel warmer than the thermostat indicates. Acker Heating & Cooling installs central air conditioning systems designed to handle sustained cooling loads from June through September, when inadequate capacity or aging equipment struggles to maintain set temperatures. Homeowners notice rooms that never cool down, systems that run continuously without cycling off, or humidity levels indoors that remain uncomfortable even when the air conditioner operates. New air conditioning installations involve load calculations that account for your home's insulation, window exposure, and square footage to determine the correct tonnage and SEER rating for efficient operation. Undersized units run constantly and fail to dehumidify properly, while oversized equipment short-cycles, wasting energy and leaving indoor air clammy. Arrange an on-site evaluation to assess your home's cooling requirements and compare equipment options based on efficiency and capacity. How Air Conditioning Addresses Heat and Humidity Central air conditioning removes heat from indoor air by circulating refrigerant between an outdoor condensing unit and an indoor evaporator coil. As warm air passes over the cold coil, heat transfers into the refrigerant, and moisture condenses out of the air, draining away through dedicated condensate lines. The cooled, dehumidified air then distributes through ductwork to each room, maintaining consistent temperatures when the system is properly sized and installed. Once your new system is operational, you will notice rooms reach thermostat settings within a reasonable timeframe, the compressor cycles off periodically rather than running without pause, and indoor humidity drops to levels that feel comfortable without that sticky sensation common during Georgia summers. Acker Heating & Cooling sizes refrigerant line sets and ductwork to minimize pressure drops and ensures airflow matches manufacturer specifications for both cooling output and dehumidification performance. Installation includes electrical connections rated for the compressor's startup amperage, vibration isolation pads to reduce noise transmission, and thermostatic controls that allow precise temperature management. Systems also require annual maintenance to keep refrigerant charge at proper levels, clean coils free of debris, and verify that airflow remains unobstructed by dirty filters or duct restrictions. Common Questions About Cooling System Installation Property owners in Clarke County often want clarity on equipment selection, efficiency ratings, and what affects long-term system performance. What determines the right size air conditioner for a home? Load calculations factor in square footage, insulation R-values, window orientation, ceiling height, and occupancy patterns to determine the tonnage required to cool your home efficiently without oversizing the equipment. How does SEER rating affect operating costs? Higher SEER-rated systems consume less electricity per BTU of cooling output, reducing monthly utility bills during extended cooling seasons, with the upfront cost difference typically recovered over several years of operation in climates with significant cooling demands like Athens. When should ductwork be replaced along with the air conditioner? Ducts showing visible air leaks, damaged insulation, or undersized runs that restrict airflow should be repaired or replaced during system installation to avoid efficiency losses that waste up to thirty percent of cooled air before it reaches living spaces. What maintenance does a new air conditioning system require? Annual service includes cleaning both coils, checking refrigerant charge and pressures, verifying electrical connections, testing capacitors, and replacing air filters to maintain efficiency and prevent breakdowns during peak cooling season. How do two-stage compressors differ from single-stage models? Two-stage compressors operate at lower capacity during mild weather, reducing energy consumption and improving humidity removal, then shift to full capacity when outdoor temperatures peak and maximum cooling output becomes necessary. Acker Heating & Cooling matches air conditioning equipment to your home's specific cooling load and provides installation that meets manufacturer standards for refrigerant handling, airflow balancing, and electrical safety. Breathing Cleaner Air Inside Your Home Indoor Air Quality in Athens for homes with dust buildup, allergen concerns, and inconsistent ventilation Acker Heating & Cooling installs air purification systems and filtration upgrades that reduce airborne particles, allergens, and odors circulating through your HVAC system. Homeowners in Athens often notice dust settling on furniture within days of cleaning, persistent allergy symptoms indoors, or stale air in rooms with poor circulation. These conditions point to inadequate filtration or ventilation that standard HVAC equipment does not address on its own. Indoor air quality solutions include whole-home air purifiers, high-efficiency filtration media, UV germicidal lights, and humidity control equipment that work with your existing heating and cooling system. Each component targets specific contaminants: HEPA-grade filters capture particulates down to sub-micron sizes, UV lamps neutralize mold spores and bacteria on evaporator coils, and dehumidifiers prevent moisture levels that encourage dust mite populations and mildew growth. Schedule an air quality assessment to identify which filtration or purification equipment matches your home's specific concerns. What Proper Filtration and Purification Require Effective air quality improvement begins with measuring your current indoor environment and identifying the contaminants present. Testing reveals whether particulate matter, biological growth, or volatile organic compounds dominate the air, which determines whether mechanical filtration, UV treatment, or activated carbon adsorption provides the most benefit. Systems are sized based on your home's square footage and the air handler's capacity to ensure proper flow rates through filtration media without restricting airflow or straining the blower motor. After installation, you will notice reduced dust accumulation on surfaces, fewer allergy flare-ups during high pollen seasons, and elimination of musty odors that often indicate mold activity within ductwork. Acker Heating & Cooling integrates these components directly into the return air plenum or installs standalone units that treat air before it enters living spaces, depending on your system layout and the level of purification required. Filtration media requires replacement on schedules ranging from every three months for standard pleated filters to annually for electronic air cleaners, while UV lamps maintain effectiveness for approximately one year before bulb replacement becomes necessary. Humidity control equipment includes drain lines and condensate management that must remain clear to prevent water damage and ensure continuous operation during humid summer months common in the Clarke County area. A living room with a sectional couch and pictures on the wall Questions About Improving Your Home's Air Homeowners in Athens frequently ask about the differences between filtration options and what maintenance air quality systems require over time. What does an air quality assessment involve? Technicians measure particulate counts, relative humidity levels, and inspect ductwork for visible mold or debris accumulation, then recommend equipment based on the specific contaminants detected and your HVAC system's compatibility with various filtration devices. How does UV light treatment work inside an HVAC system? UV-C lamps installed near the evaporator coil emit wavelengths that disrupt the DNA of mold spores, bacteria, and viruses, preventing them from reproducing and reducing biological growth on surfaces that remain damp during cooling cycles. When should humidity control be added to an air quality system? Homes in Athens with indoor humidity consistently above sixty percent during summer months benefit from whole-home dehumidifiers, which prevent conditions that allow dust mites and mold to thrive while also improving comfort and reducing the workload on air conditioning equipment. What is the difference between MERV ratings on filters? Higher MERV-rated filters capture smaller particles but create more airflow resistance, so the filter must match your air handler's blower capacity to avoid reduced system efficiency or premature equipment failure from restricted airflow. How often do purification systems require maintenance? Electronic air cleaners need cleaning every one to three months depending on use, UV lamps require annual bulb replacement, and media filters are replaced based on manufacturer specifications, typically ranging from quarterly to annually based on filtration efficiency and household conditions. Acker Heating & Cooling evaluates your home's ventilation patterns, existing filtration capacity, and specific air quality concerns to recommend equipment that addresses the contaminants affecting your indoor environment. Request a consultation to review testing results and filtration options that integrate with your current HVAC system.

We recently bought a very nice home that needed a lot of updates one was a new HVAC and gas heating system. The person that came out to check our current unit was very nice and sent a few quotes. Since we were on a tight budget I called Bryan Acker and he worked with me to get a good system within our budget for our home. I felt like as a woman he was not trying to take advantage of my knowledge but instead really tried to help me. I highly recommend Acker Heating and Air.

Wonderful experience. We had been using another company for years. They made a complete mess of my mothers HVAC systems. She was without AC for more than 3 weeks while they did nothing. We called several companies to help us figure out what to do. Daniel and the team from Acker came in and gave us a great system at a very competitive price. They came out and did the install very quickly and the new system is amazing. It is o quiet and keeps the house at a very comfortable temperature. They were also able to organize very good financing for us. We could not be happier!

It took me a long time to make up my mind about which brand unit I wanted. No one pressured me for an answer. When I decided , Acker went with my schedule and showed up on time on the day promised. The guys who came out, Levi and Evan?, (sorry Evan if I got your name wrong) knew what they were doing and let me ask my 100 questions without getting put out. They got the job done in one day and cleaned up their mess and left 20 minutes after they wish they had, cause they helped me with more questions and making certain I understood the proper operation of the units remote control. Two days later, a different guy, Jay, came by to check the work and make certain the unit was working properly and that I was satisfied. He gave me warranty papers , which they had filled out for me, to sign and paperwork, which they also filled out for me, to apply for a rebate from JEMC, which I wasn't aware I was eligible for till Acker informed me of such. This was expensive, as all good work seems to be. The finished job looks good and, two weeks in, the A/C is cooling and drying my house the way I want it to. I don't know yet what effect it might have on my electric bill, but JEMC wouldn't have given me money toward this energy efficient unit if it didn't behoove them in some fashion; and I believe they want energy efficiency in their system.
