The team was polite and respectful up front and through potential repair, but communication is all over the place. We unfortunately didn’t have as pleasant of an experience as others. I was up front with the extent of our interior door frame issue and we ended up being over promised a lot regarding potential fixes. So- we had them come out just for them to do a lot of work and get no where. We are now out $200+ and back to square one. 🫠
Updated reply to Ace Handyman’s reply:
I keep being told by Megan that this is (the above response by the owner) what happened, but she wasn’t there. (You said the supervisor, after inspecting, said the issue is within the framing, but I’ve been saying that since day 1…& The door was not even scraping before either tech came out.)
My husband knows what Woody told him & we have video of Woody/my husband at the end summarizing how the visit went/the promises made by him regarding the bill.
To begin: On my initial call with Ace Handyman, after sending a thorough message of our issue, Megan repeatedly kept saying “it’s probably just a tweak in the hinge, maybe a tweak on the strike plate…” Etc. I told her I believe it’s going to be a more structural issue/fix. Instead of going back-&-forth on the phone I decided to take her word since they’re the professionals.
When Mark (the first tech) came out, He arrived nearly an hour after the appointment time with no text except 30 minutes -after- the appt time that he was on his way…no explanation or acknowledgement about how late he was once he got here. Upon arrival, it was pretty much complete silence. My husband & I were confused by the silence so we tried to explain the whole thing… He then started tweaking with the hinges & the strike plate with almost no communication from him…& like he didn’t read any of the notes/pics I made sure to send prior to the visit to make sure he’s fully prepared. We are paying them for each hour he’s here & I wasn’t wanting little fixes so I was hoping they’d be as prepared as they possibly could be upon arrival. Again, I was wanting the underlying issue fixed. He did not communicate to us regarding options for fixes…in the end he jutted out the hinges further from the doorstop on the top causing not only the original bottom left corner to stick out from the frame, but then also the top right corner near the hinges then stuck out from the frame… 🤦🏼♀️ even though, yes, he was technically able to get it to “close”, I made sure to clearly communicate to Megan that I’m trying to get the cause of this structural issue fixed & it was not. Also, with the strike plate jutted out so it can latch easier, it caused my son to get scratched on the arm when he was walking past the door frame.
I wasn’t home at that time Mark was here due to medical appointments so my husband who was working from home did a quick look over & assumed he did/finished the job & paid him for the hours of work he did.
Once I got home, I clearly saw what personally looked like a butchered job & definitely not the fix that I originally communicated/expected.
I appreciated how quick Megan was to respond with my concerns about the job & how I was wanting the cause of the issue to be fixed… She stated that Mark should have gone over our options with us, which he didn’t. She then said Woody will be coming out to work on the door & will be taking a more “thorough approach” by exposing the door frame, etc. the next week & also that the money we paid for what Mark did would apply towards the new total for what Woody does, which was great.
When Woody came over, My husband asked if he was confident he could fix this-he said he was VERY confident. Turns out all he exposed was the latch side of the frame, only adjusting the bottom left part of the frame. He then communicated if we were to go through with his fix the door frame would jut in more towards the bedroom on the bottom left & away from the hallway & still look uneven, but after it’s caulked, it probably won’t look bad/stand out.
