How do I pick colors?
If you're maintaining your current color, providing a leftover paint can or the specific color formula is ideal. This allows us to match your original color precisely. For new colors, we can match most shades from various manufacturers to our specified brand. If you don't have the original color, we'll do our best to match the least faded area of your home, often found behind bushes or under porches.
Where do I go to pick colors and what paint do you use?
You're welcome to select colors from any paint store. Once you've chosen a color, please provide us with the brand, name, color number, and a swatch. We'll match it to our specified brand unless it's not possible to achieve a close match. In such cases, we'll order the paint directly from the manufacturer you selected. Please note that without the actual paint swatch, our color match may vary slightly due to swatch color variations.
How will I know if I will need one or two coats of paint?
The need for one or two coats is typically determined during the estimation process, especially if a color change is discussed. We generally don't apply two coats unless necessary for color changes. If you decide to change colors after the initial estimate, we may perform a test patch on your home to determine if two coats are needed. We offer up to three complimentary test patches, provided they're done simultaneously with a sample from the manufacturer.
I picked a darker color than I currently have, why do I need two coats?
Contrary to common belief, darker colors often require more coats than lighter ones. Some dark shades, due to the type of base needed for mixing, may require multiple coats for proper coverage. This is particularly true for exterior accents like shutters and doors. Even when painting over a similar color, certain shades mixed in neutral or accent bases may necessitate several coats for optimal results.
My trim is white and I want to switch it to an off white, why two coats?
Even a slight color change, such as from white to off-white, may require two coats. This is due to the paint base used. Most modern whites contain a small amount of black for better coverage. When switching to a soft white, like shell white, the new paint often uses a white or pastel base with minimal colorant, which may not provide adequate coverage in one coat. To address this, we might suggest using a white that already contains some black for better coverage while closely matching your desired shade.
When do I provide you with my colors?
Ideally, we prefer to have your color selections at the time of contract signing. However, we understand this isn't always possible. To ensure a smooth process, please provide your color choices at least two weeks before the scheduled painting date. This allows sufficient time for color matching and any necessary test patches for your approval.
Who do I talk to or call if I have any questions during the painting process?
For questions directly related to the painting process, you can first speak with the on-site foreman. If you need additional information or have other inquiries, please contact your estimator or our office. We're here to address any concerns you may have throughout the project.
What do I do if I want to add more work to the contract after the job has already started?
If you wish to add work to an ongoing project, please contact your estimator directly. It's important not to discuss additional work with the job foreman or our office. Your estimator will assess the additional work, provide a price quote, and prepare a written change order for your approval and signature.
Who will check the job to see if it is complete?
The on-site foreman will typically inform you when the job is nearing completion. If you're available, you may be invited to walk through and inspect the work for any issues. Additionally, your estimator will personally conduct a thorough inspection of the entire job to ensure it meets our quality standards and your expectations.
