Disastrous Customer Service, Misleading Estimates, and Ruined Floors
We hired Manasota Flooring (Sarasota, FL) to replace the carpeting in our four bedrooms with Shaw luxury vinyl flooring to match the rest of our new construction home. The experience from estimation to final installation was plagued by inaccurate information, hidden fees, and a completely unacceptable final product.
1. Inaccurate Project Scope & Broken Promises
During the estimate, the salesman (Larry) assured us that the toilet in our second bathroom would not need to be pulled up. We explicitly questioned this because we had a brand-new smart toilet scheduled for installation by our plumber the following week. Larry insisted it was unnecessary. However, on installation day, the crew refused to start unless the second toilet was removed. After a heated dispute, a manager agreed to reimburse us $350 to cover our plumber's cost to reinstall it.
2. Excessive "Hidden" Fees and Petty Retaliation
The original contract stated that floor leveler was an extra charge "if needed." Larry verbally assured us that in all his years of experience, a job had never required more than one bag ($70). Upon completion, we were slapped with an additional $490 bill for seven bags of leveler.
When I disputed this, they initially agreed to reduce the charge to two bags. However, when I pointed out that they had over-ordered materials—leaving 6 unused boxes of flooring worth roughly $600 at my house—the salesman retaliated. He stated he would take back the over-ordered boxes but would reinstate the full seven-bag leveling fee out of spite.
3. Ruined, Filthy Final Product
The actual installation quality is deeply disappointing. The installers left the floors covered in what appear to be permanent, dirty footprints. Despite washing the new floors four separate times, the stains will not come out. When questioned, the salesman claimed they do not use glue, yet the floors look permanently filthy.
Final Verdict
We are completely unsatisfied, hate the final result, and are now in a position where we have to pay a completely new company to rip out this work and start over. Save yourself the headache, hidden fees, and unprofessional retaliation—do not use Manasota Flooring.
