I am submitting this review on behalf of my 80‑year‑old mother, and these are her words:
I had a maintenance contract with Ellington Air Conditioning that included two service visits a year for my six‑year‑old HVAC unit. During one service call, the technician told me I needed a new capacitor. $1,600 later, the unit was running again, and I assumed everything was fine.
Less than a year later, during my next scheduled service appointment, I was told another part had failed and that I should consider replacing the entire system rather than “nickel and diming” repairs. Trusting their advice, I purchased a new system for over $12,000.
After installation, I checked the closet where the air handler was placed and saw it was sitting crooked. A technician came out, agreed it was unacceptable, and more technicians returned to fix it. I thought the issue was resolved.
Months later, the new unit stopped cooling. Another technician came out and discovered the unit had been installed incorrectly. The wires inside the air handler were not insulated properly, causing the blue light to melt the wires and short out my thermostat. Thankfully, this technician did an excellent job repairing it and restoring cool air.
At this point, I contacted the city to confirm the age of the new unit and was shocked to learn no permit had ever been completed. The company had applied for one but later abandoned it. This was extremely concerning.
I called Ellington Air repeatedly to resolve the permit issue. The gentleman who answers the phone is always cheerful—“How can I make you smile today?”—but despite leaving message after message for the one person responsible for permits, I was given excuse after excuse: she was unavailable, at lunch, dealing with a family emergency, or on another line. When I finally insisted on waiting, I was told she had “left the building.” The poor man answering the phone even texted four supervisors trying to help me, but his hands were tied.
Eventually, she returned my call and said she would apply for an after‑the‑fact permit, which took another week. During this time, I also learned that the company is using Mr. Ellington’s license even though the business was sold to TurnPoint Services — something I was never told.
When the city inspector finally came, Ellington had to correct yet another issue with the exterior unit. The inspector had to return a second time before it passed.
By then, I was so frustrated that I canceled my service contract on May 4, 2026. I had automatic withdrawals set up, and they assured me the payments would stop. They did not. On June 2, 2026, they withdrew another $19.95. I had to contact my bank, dispute the charge, and ultimately open an entirely new account to prevent further withdrawals.
In my 80 years, this is the first negative review I have ever written. Please take heed. This company was eager to answer the phone when they were selling me a new system, but when real problems arose, they were unprofessional, unresponsive, and dismissive. I hope no one else has to go through what I experienced.
