I’ve been in the tree service business for over 13 years, and during that time I’ve dealt with plenty of equipment dealers and vendors. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Vermeer was one of the most unprofessional and embarrassing experiences I’ve had. I urgently needed parts for my stump grinder and was offered overnight shipping. Because these parts were critical to keeping my equipment running, I drove approximately an hour and a half to the dealership first thing in the morning, expecting the order we had already discussed to be there. When I arrived, nobody seemed to know what was going on with my order. I was originally under the impression that the overnight shipment would arrive in the morning. Then I was told it might not arrive until around noon—which was apparently about the same time their regular ground shipment was arriving. So why exactly was I paying for overnight shipping? Then things got worse. While they were looking through my account, I was suddenly told there was a “problem.” Apparently, there was an outstanding balance of approximately $135 from 2022 or 2023 that I knew nothing about. Instead of somebody simply speaking to me privately and professionally about it, a woman came downstairs with the amount written on a Post-it note and brought me into a back room in front of everyone. The entire situation made me feel like I had done something wrong over a $135 bill from three or four years ago that I wasn't even aware existed. What makes this even more frustrating is that they knew exactly who I was before I made that hour-and-a-half drive. We had already discussed the parts and shipping. If there was an issue with my account, why wasn't it brought to my attention before I drove all the way there? After more than 13 years in business, I understand that billing mistakes and misunderstandings happen. What matters is how you treat your customers when they do. I found the way this situation was handled completely unnecessary, embarrassing, and unprofessional. I was seriously considering purchasing a new stump grinder from them in the neighborhood of $100,000. After this experience, that purchase will absolutely be made somewhere else. They lost a longtime customer over the way a $135 issue was handled. I will not be doing business with this location again, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

Bought a part. My mechanic didn't even use it. They don't want to take it back. These people are weird.

We brought our mini skid in for servicing a week ago to replace the key that had broke. This is the third or fourth time we’ve brought our machine here, and while it’s not the easiest task since we live about two hours away, we’ve always appreciated Vermeer’s great customer service and work. However, this time, I had a bit of a concern with the specialist assigned to our machine. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I had some reservations about her because of the lack of communication and customer service. Fortunately, after speaking to one of the lead technicians, Josh, he went above and beyond for us. He thoroughly rechecked our machine, reviewed all the notes, and even reduced our bill because of the inconvenience. Thanks to this little act of kindness and exceptional customer service, we’ll continue to bring our machine to Vermeer.
