In the past, we were delighted with the work that K & Y did for us; they installed an engineered hardwood floor and did a carpet replacement in our hallway. I was hoping to have another great experience with them. I enjoy giving repeat business to local companies.
So I called and spoke to Jim regarding a carpet replacement for my elderly parents' home. He was very kind and polite and promptly came out to measure. The project was delayed due to our own circumstances for a few weeks, but when I finally had a moment, I visited the store to make the carpet selection as Jim had recommended.
When I arrived at the office, I discovered that the measurements had never been filed in the book or the computer; either that, or they were discarded without letting me know. After working with the receptionist to locate them with no success, Lisa approached and told me "I remember now; this job would have been too difficult for our installers." OK, if they didn't want to do the job, why not call me to tell me so before I wasted a trip to the store?
I had even located excellent movers to help with emptying out bookcases and funiture to make everything easy for the installation.
I was so disappointed at this treatment after Jim was kind and courteous. How could this business have changed so much over the years? To top it off, Jim knew that we had been considering using K & Y for a much larger job -- a complete flooring replacement in our own home.
I was astounded that four years ago, Incredible HawF posted a one-star review with an almost identical story about the way they had been treated. I am writing this review both as a service to the community and a service to the store owner so that he or she is aware of what is going on.

When we bought new, the house had all the fabulous upgrades you could want, except for the carpets, which were your basic builder-grade variety. It didn't take long for the carpets to warp, buckle, bubble—whatever term you want to use. Now six years later, we decided to upgrade. Searching online for local installers, K&Y Carpet One in Melbourne stood out as our top pick.
The website was current, informative, clean, free of errors, and the fact K&Y has been in business locally for more than 60 years was the icing on the cake. And K&Y did not disappoint, from the first call to get an estimate from Jim; to the showroom visit with Lisa; bringing samples home; having Mike come by the house to measure the three rooms to be upgraded and update the estimate; putting down the deposit so the order can be placed; confirming the date for install; prepping the rooms so Kyle and Danny could move out the larger pieces of furniture, tear out the old stuff, perfectly install the new carpet, then move all the furniture back; making final payment. All of it, from start to finish, was truly an amazing and most welcome, positive experience. All the K&Y-named individuals were professional, knowledgeable, customer-service oriented, pleasant, friendly, punctual, and responsive. After it was all done, Kyle and Danny not only left the house as clean as when they arrived, they also left behind beautiful new carpeting, impeccably installed, now matching the quality and caliber of the rest of the home's interior. So, if you're looking to upgrade your carpets, I would say... start here!
