What is a Trauma and Biohazard cleaning service?
OneCall's trauma and biohazard service relates to any cleanup involving a crime scene, unattended death, blood or other bodily fluids. We understand there may be extreme loss and distress related to these situations, and we are committed to ensuring your space is clean and habitable with compassion and sensitivity
What does the trauma cleaning process look like?
OneCall Decon & Restoration provides a detailed cleanup per job. We clean non-porous surfaces affected by biohazards, and we remove porous surfaces that are unable to be cleaned and dispose of all removed contents according to state regulations.
We focus on removing the compromised contents that are contaminated.
If the biohazard (fluids) did not breach past the flooring into the main structural parts of the area, we do not need a rebuild. (Rebuilds take longer than general cleanups)
Next, we do a deep clean & sanitize of the area to remove the bacteria & fluids from the location.
Lastly, we deodorize and do a final walkthrough for your satisfaction

The majority of instances are covered by insurance. For those that are not, we offer private pay for our customers. Although out-of-pocket costs can have a wide range, our estimators are dedicated to providing a fair price for everyone. Please contact us with additional questions.

We perform the cleanup & work with you and/or your insurance on resolving the matter at hand.
Why is there mold growth occurring in my home/building?
Mold spores require oxygen, nutrients, and most importantly, moisture in order to grow inside. Mold often occurs in indoor spaces with less light exposure and more moisture exposure, such as a bathroom.
Mold can grow on any surface but is usually found growing on wood, wallpaper, painted walls, carpet, sheetrock, insulation, and ceiling tiles.
What is the difference between mold and mildew?
Mold and mildew are often used interchangeably, but they’re two different kinds of microbial growth. Mildew is usually white or grey in color, while mold is usually brighter (green, blue, black, or yellow) with a fuzzy or slimy texture. Mildew grows on flat, already-wet surfaces, while mold often grows beneath or between surfaces. Because mildew is usually found on surfaces, it’s easier to clean and remove than mold. While both can cause allergic or respiratory issues, mold is a more severe health concern.
What does the mold mitigation process look like?
Professional mold mitigation involves an initial mold evaluation/inspection of the space, including taking moisture readings, killing any existing mold and removing any non-salvageable materials, returning the space to a healthy environment, and preventing the return and spread of any future mold spores. The mold mitigation process can take up to several days depending on the severity of the affected area.

What kind of water damage results from sewage?
Water damage from ‘black water’ or sewage is known as Category 3 water damage, which is the most severe and dangerous of all kinds of water damage.
What are the signs of a sewage backup?
The most clear and often the first detectable sign of water damage from sewage will be the smell. If you notice a foul odor coming from anywhere in your home or building, it is often a telltale sign of a backup.
What does a sewage backup look like?
Sewage backups can have vastly different appearances depending on the situation, but most likely they will present in the form of murky/dirty water with a very strong stench. This water is filled with toxic contaminants and should be avoided at all costs, as even breathing in fumes of the surrounding area can cause health concerns. This is why it is crucial to contact a certified mitigation professional as soon as a backup or leak is discovered.
Where do backups commonly occur?
A backup is most likely to occur in a room such as a kitchen, bathroom or basement, as these rooms have sewer lines attached that are susceptible of becoming damaged or blocked.
Why do backups occur?
Sewage backups occur for a variety of reasons, many of which can be completely out of your control. For example:
Sanitary Main Blocked: When a blockage occurs at a city’s main sanitary line and is not addressed promptly enough, it can cause backups for several homes and businesses surrounding the area of the blockage.
Aging Sewer System: The average age for a sewer system is around 30 years old. There are several homes and businesses that have backups occur within them simply because of an older system.
Tree Roots: If you have a large tree in your yard, its roots can slowly grow to break through the sewage pipes. This kind of damage is slow, but can be disastrous once the root(s) fully block the line.
How does the water mitigation process work?
Water cleanup is a multi-phase process, with the first step being removing all standing water from flooring, carpet, and all other affected materials. Once the water is removed, dehumidifiers and other specialized equipment are used to dry the areas. This can take multiple days, depending on the amount of water, the space affected and the temperature used to dry. After the process is complete, we use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras (when applicable) to make sure your home is thoroughly dry. Fixing water damage may also involve drywall removal, carpet cleaning, wood floor repair, odor control, air duct cleaning, and mold mitigation.
(Note: Reconstruction is only necessary if the structural contents have been soaked in water for long periods of time and are compromised)
There's flooding in my home/ building should I call my insurance company first?
No. Most insurance companies prefer you call a water damage restoration company to begin cleanup and fix the damage as soon as possible. The faster our crews arrive, the more destruction we can prevent, which decreases restoration costs and protects your home from further flood damage.
How much does it cost to fix water damage?
The cost of water damage cleanup varies greatly based on the size of the flooded area and the amount of time needed to handle the repair. If your insurance policy covers water damage restoration, you are usually only responsible for the deductible. Because water can move so quickly and be very destructive, there can be even bigger problems like mold growth and structural damage if not promptly removed with the right equipment. When done properly, fixing water damage can take several days and many labor hours to complete, which have varying costs.
What are the different categories of water?
Water damage is divided into three categories based on its severity of health hazard:
Category 1 (clean water): Poses no harm to people. Often flooding caused by sink or bathtub overflow or an appliance malfunction such as a water heater or washing machine.
Category 2 (grey water): Potential to cause harm or illness to people. This category involves water with a considerable amount of contaminants, which can be chemical, physical or biological
Category 3 (black water): Extremely hazardous to people. Can cause severe illness and contains pathogens. Sources can come from river or lake water, ground surface water, and sewage backups.
How do I know if I have water damage?
Water/Flood damage can sometimes be hidden with a not-so-obvious source like a slow-leaking roof or appliance. Some signs of hidden water damage include peeling wallpaper or paint, moisture and condensation in carpet or other floorings, visible mold, musty odors, and patches of discoloration/warping in ceiling tiles.
How should I prepare for a water damage cleanup?
We will want to know exactly what the source of the leak is, so if you believe it's a plumbing issue, contact a plumber first to isolate and correct the active leak. (We can provide references!)
