- BJBenjamin JonesAug 13, 20264.0Robert from Don’s Garage Door Repair did a good job fixing my garage door and the experience was mostly positive. When I scheduled a $30 garage door tuneup with Don’s, I had the expectation that the visit was a loss-leader to generate business for larger repairs and replacements. After they rescheduled once, they arrived for the second appointment. Within seconds of seeing the door, Robert asked me if I would consider replacing the door due to its age. When I said no, Robert made a more thorough assessment and recommended that I replace the spring along with several hinges and cables, totaling several thousand dollars. It was only after declining this that he reluctantly agreed to service the door and replace one hinge which was visibly damaged. Ultimately the work that Robert did helped to noticeably improve my garage door functionality. Unfortunately the cost of that basic repair was higher than the price quoted from nearby competitors and was only possible after repeatedly refusing the much more costly repairs that they recommended. I completely understand the intentions around these ‘loss leader’ service visits, however I would appreciate more transparency and cooperation while making decisions around repairs.
