I had an extremely disappointing experience at Arizona Tile. This was my second time visiting this location, and I came in with my toddler because I am currently in the process of designing homes as my husband is a developer. I was specifically there to look at and purchase porcelain slabs.
As soon as I walked in and asked to go to the back to view the slabs, I was abruptly told by a man with long white hair that I could not go back there with my toddler. I was surprised because I had been at this exact location just a few weeks ago with my toddler and was allowed to view the slabs.
I asked when this policy had changed, and he said it had always been the rule. When I asked how parents with children are expected to come in and select slabs for their homes, his response was essentially a shrug. There was no attempt to offer an alternative, provide assistance, or show any understanding of the situation.
I completely understand that a business may have safety policies regarding children in certain areas. My issue was not the policy itself, it was the way I was spoken to and treated as a customer. The interaction was unnecessarily rude, dismissive, and condescending. & why not post this online so we are aware before we make the drive out there!
When I told him that I would not be doing business there, his response was condescending, and when I said not to talk back rudely, he responded, “I’m just agreeing with you.”
I left feeling disrespected. I was there as a serious customer looking for materials for a significant home projects, and regardless of whether a customer can access a particular area, there is absolutely no reason they should be made to feel unwelcome or spoken to in that manner.
If you are looking for porcelain slabs, stone, or other materials for a remodel or new construction project, I would think twice about visiting this location. Policies are one thing and respectful customer service is another.
