  L&M Home Comfort came to my girlfriend and my home after the AC stopped working in the middle of the night. Their technician diagnosed a leaking evaporator coil and claimed the system had frozen because of the leak. We were told the system was approximately 5 pounds low on refrigerant and were quoted over $1,300 just to add refrigerant and UV dye, with 3 hours of labor. Thankfully, we decided to get a second opinion before approving the work. The second HVAC company found that the system had frozen because the air filter was completely plugged, severely restricting airflow—not because of a major refrigerant leak. After the system thawed and was properly diagnosed, it turned out it was only 0.25 pounds low on R-410A, not 5 pounds. They recharged the system at $75 per pound, meaning we only needed about $20 worth of refrigerant, compared to L&M’s recommendation of nearly $750 worth of refrigerant alone at $148.75 per pound. To make matters worse, L&M also left the electrical disconnect pulled out. Whether that was accidental or careless, it meant the AC still wouldn’t run after it thawed, creating even more confusion and inconvenience. Based on our experience, either the technician was seriously incompetent or we were being sold work the system simply did not need. Either possibility is unacceptable when homeowners are relying on a company to provide an honest diagnosis. If we had trusted L&M without getting a second opinion, we would have spent well over a thousand dollars for unnecessary work. I strongly encourage anyone dealing with an expensive HVAC diagnosis from this company to get a second opinion before approving any repairs. Our experience left us with absolutely no confidence in their honesty, competence, or integrity
