SMW has been great for us over the years and had always been able to see us earlier than anticipated. Unfortunately our builders took numerous shortcuts, surprise surprise, so our HVAC system has required TLC and extras. Most recently, one of our units stopped blowing cold air. Nate Bloechl came to the rescue as the expert to fix what others had trouble with, this is the 2nd time he's been the go-to expert when the original technician is having trouble with a problem (still appreciate the others coming out right away and getting the ball rolling). Will be requesting Nate first here on out and save a step! Thanks SMW!

***UPDATE*** Wayne cancelled my appointment due to me providing an accurate review. However, he did me a huge favor as another AC company will do the work for $1400 when SMW was going to charge $2600. This companies prices and customer service is complete garbage. I used SMW to install a 2 ton TRANE gas pack in Oct of 2024. The compressor failed in August of 2026. I had also purchased a comfort club maintenance membership from SMW. SMW is refusing to help with the warranty work to replace the compressor. This is a horrible HVAC company.

I hired SMW Refrigeration to install an 2 ton TRANE gas pack in October of 2024 for $10K. Less than 2 years later my compressor failed which is covered under warranty. However, labor and refrigerant are not covered. SMW billed me another $2600 for that. I had another unit replaced in 2026, the SMW quote was 9,800 while another company installed the same unit for 6800. Beware of high prices.

I had been a customer of SMW Refrigeration and Heating for years. They installed my HVAC system in 2021, and I prepaid for a five-year maintenance agreement with two visits per year. I expected proper installation, routine maintenance, and clear communication about any issues they observed. The issue began when my AC froze and water poured from the return duct into my home. I shut the system down for several hours to thaw it. After restarting, it ran poorly and struggled to cool. The next morning, it froze again and water reappeared from the return duct. I called SMW, but the earliest appointment was several hours away. Because I couldn't wait without AC, I called another company and canceled SMW's visit. The other company found the system was overcharged with refrigerant and corrected it. Cooling still wasn't right, so they inspected further and discovered excessive return ducting coiled in the attic instead of being properly routed. When lifted, about five gallons of foul-smelling standing water drained into my home. They also found an unsealed roof penetration near the unit. They corrected the duct routing, shortened it, and sealed the roof opening. The system has worked properly since. They also noted dirty coils. This concerned me because SMW had performed regular maintenance for years without ever mentioning that cleaning was needed. I would have approved the work if informed. The refrigerant issue also raised concerns since it had gone unnoticed during prior service visits. My decision to leave SMW was not based on the original ductwork itself, but on how the situation was handled afterward. When I spoke with the general manager, Wayne, I asked whether ductwork inspection is part of a new HVAC installation. He said they would not inspect it unless specifically requested. I clarified multiple times that I was not blaming SMW for the original ductwork, but pointing out that during the 2021 installation there was an opportunity to identify and communicate an obvious system issue. The technician who fixed the problem told me that visually checking accessible ductwork and the overall system for obvious issues is standard during installation. Other HVAC companies confirmed the same. I suggested that if SMW does not include this in their process, it may be worth reconsidering to prevent similar situations. Wayne responded dismissively, saying, "Hmm," and asking, "You think you got screwed over?" He also said my reasoning didn't make sense and that I would have had to pay for ductwork correction regardless. I agreed, but noted I also incurred additional costs due to multiple visits and diagnostics from the other company. I remained respectful throughout and was not seeking full reimbursement. I simply wanted acknowledgment of a possible oversight, recognition of the inconvenience, and some goodwill consideration. At this point, I would prefer a refund of the unused portion of my prepaid maintenance agreement rather than continue service with SMW. If that is not possible, I will use the remaining visits but will not renew. This experience involved a missed opportunity to identify an obvious system issue, a refrigerant overcharge never previously disclosed, dirty coils I was never informed about, and a customer service interaction that left me feeling dismissed rather than supported. Ultimately, another company resolved the HVAC issues. What remains unresolved is my confidence in SMW's communication, thoroughness, and willingness to address long-term customer concerns.

I was completely misled by both the service technician and the general manager, Wayne. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company for future repairs or to anyone else. We paid to have an issue fixed involving our drip pan backing up, but the problem was not resolved. The technician was at our home for less than 10 minutes, did not wait to confirm that the drain line was completely cleared, and left me to close up the exposed unit myself. Within approximately 10 minutes of him leaving, the drip pan backed up again. When I called and asked for the technician to return and complete the repair we had already paid for, Wayne told me they would only come back after I reviewed a quote for a complete drip-pan cleaning and drain-line flush. When I asked why the technician had not mentioned the additional service while he was at the house, Wayne claimed he had discussed it when he spoke with him on the phone. That did not happen. Wayne was not understanding given the situation and was very abrasive on the phone and was set out to maximize and leverage the situation in their favor. Had the technician clearly explained that this service was available separately from the membership plan, I would have considered moving forward with it. Instead, most of the conversation focused on pressuring us to purchase a membership rather than making sure the original repair was completed properly. The entire experience was extremely disappointing and felt dishonest, unprofessional, and focused more on maximizing the sale than resolving the problem. Had your technician properly explained the situation after disappearing for approximately 10 minutes, this may have been handled very differently. Instead, he returned and simply stated that we needed an overflow switch installed. At no point did he explain that the line still required additional cleaning, even when I specifically asked whether everything was good to go. He also never provided a quote to remove what you later described as a “disgusting pile of sludge” unless it was tied to a membership program. His primary focus appeared to be selling a membership rather than clearly explaining the problem, completing the repair, or presenting the available options. Based on this experience, I believe your technicians would benefit from better training in communication, transparency, and customer service. Needless to say, we contacted a different HVAC company. Their technician was excellent. He fully flushed the condensate line, provided video confirmation that the line was clear, and only after completing the work did he discuss preventative maintenance and a membership option. Because the service was handled professionally and transparently, we gladly signed up for their membership program.
