My terrible experience with Ashton Woods Home as a cash Buyer.
I was going to move from Connecticut to Houston Texas to send my 3 children to a private school, and almost for 2 months we had searched for a house in Stafford, Sugarland and nearby towns. We finally came across a new house in Rosenberg Texas, built by Ashton Woods Home. I dealt with Lisa Burke, Nicky (Sales Manager), and Daniel Leifer (General Sales Manager).
After browsing a few houses we decided to buy a house at 543 Selaura Drive in Rosenberg for the amount of $300,000. Lisa Burke asked me to send initial $6,000 earnest money as down payment to hold the house. Our closing date was August 28th, 2025. I was going to head to Texas with my family on August 25, 2025, and I booked all my accommodation on the way where we were going to stay and also rented a vehicle. Unfortunately, I contracted the virus and got tested positive for Covid-19 a few days before our closing date. My doctor restricted any trips for me until August 29th, which is understandable. Besides that, I was feeling very sick and stayed in bed for a few days. I sent the Doctor’s note and asked Mr. Liefer to give me an extension for a week till September 9th. Mr. Liefer said I had to pay additional $500 per day until the closing. Lisa Burke and I went back and forth to finalize everything. I told her I shouldn’t have to pay any extra fees for an extension since that was beyond my control and I did have a legit reason and my doctor notes as a proof. Nobody in Ashton Woods Home cares what situation you are in.

Hello,

Daniel has approved additional payment of $1,000, I will email link please send confirmation when complete to close on the 9th.

After her texting me this approval we decided to go and close the house. I booked 5 airplane tickets, I booked a hotel in Houston. And also I rented and paid for my vehicle I was going to pickup at the Airport in Houston.
Monday September 1st, 2025, the day after she texted me, I sent another $1000 to secure my house and my $6000 earnest money that I had sent to them before, so we can get our house’s closing on September 9th.
Right after I sent her confirmation that $1000 has been sent, this is the exact response from Lisa Burke:
“Sorry I’m going to submit refund for your $1000
Management has cancelled contract.
I’m not available to answer at this time.”
Ms. Burke, Ms. Nicky, Mr. Liefer, I did not even backup from this house and I didn’t cancel the contract even when I got inspection report from my inspector. There was lots of stuff still needing to be addressed in the house, there was 2 major repairs needing to be done - the roof and the side of the house where a lot of water was gathered, A/C and much more! When I had a chance to cancel the contract and get my earnest money back, I still didn’t backup or I did not cancel it because I really wanted to buy the home.
Ashton Woods Home Family, who is going to pay for my loss both mental and financial? Hours spent on phone conversations, mental stress and despair? Beside that, all the bookings for the trip were nonrefundable.
Ashton Woods Homes agreed to extend our closing date on September 9th, they promised on this, then cancelled the contract.
Ashton Woods Home, If you made me spent over $2000 and if you guys were not going to stand behind your contract and your word, then send all my loss and my $6000 dollar earnest money back because this money belongs to me and my family. Since you guys are the ones who cancelled the contract and did not sell me the house you guys should return my $6000 earnest money without giving me any excuses and problems.
