They did an excellent job of checking my A/C units. I was disappointed that they compared the starting current to the running current shown on the nameplate. They implied that this was out of the ordinary and I should get a soft start installed. They were also very late.

I found Marco’s AC when my 16 year old AC was dying. I could not be more pleased with their evaluation of my entire HVAC system. I replaced my old single stage AC and furnace with variable speed communicating units. Marco’s repaired and revised my ductwork during the process and added another return to improve overall airflow. I feel my HVAC needs are in very capable hands, which is really important to those of us who endure brutal Gulf Coast heat and humidity during Houston summers! The service I received from every Marco’s technician has been stellar. Thank you, Marco’s for your excellent work!
Frequently Asked Questions About Marcos' AC & Heating Services
What is the SEER rating?
The seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) is a measure of an air conditioner or air-source heat pump's efficiency. It's calculated by dividing the cooling output over a specific season by the total energy consumed during that same period. A higher SEER rating indicates a more efficient cooling system.
Why is the SEER rating on the Energy Guide different from what my dealer quoted?
The SEER rating of a system is determined by the combination of equipment installed in your home. While each split system cooling unit has a nominal SEER rating, the actual efficiency can be influenced by both the outdoor equipment (heat pump or air conditioner) and the indoor equipment (evaporator coil and furnace, or air handler). Your HVAC contractor can provide guidance on potential upgrades to achieve a higher rating.
Why do I need regular (or preventive) HVAC maintenance?
Regular HVAC maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your heating and cooling systems. The constant operation can cause wear and tear on these machines. Scheduled maintenance helps keep your systems in prime condition, prevents malfunctions, maximizes efficiency, and can uncover potential issues such as leaks, rust, rot, soot, frayed wires, and corroded electrical contacts before they become major problems.
Which equipment requires regular (or preventive) maintenance?
All heating and cooling equipment should undergo annual professional maintenance. For boilers and furnaces, inspections should cover ductwork, pipes, dampers, valves, the chimney, registers, radiators, pumps, blowers, fuel lines, and the oil tank. Heat pump and air conditioning unit inspections should include examining the fan, compressor, indoor coils, outdoor coils, and refrigerant lines.
I need help troubleshooting a problem with my equipment.
Our team at Marcos' AC & Heating Inc. specializes in HVAC troubleshooting. We offer informative resources on our website addressing common HVAC issues. For immediate assistance during business hours, please contact our office. We also provide 24/7 emergency service through our on-call technicians for urgent HVAC problems outside of regular hours.
What are the advantages of a programmable thermostat?
Programmable thermostats offer improved accuracy and efficiency compared to mercury-based models. They allow you to preset temperature settings for different times of the day, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. By scheduling temperature changes based on your daily routine, you can reduce energy consumption and costs without sacrificing comfort. Our technicians at Marcos' AC & Heating Inc. can provide guidance on using your programmable thermostat effectively.
Why can't I find the correct size furnace filter at my local home improvement store?
Some HVAC units require brand-specific filters that may be made from higher-quality materials than standard disposable filters found in retail stores. We recommend consulting with your local dealer to find the appropriate filter for your air conditioner. It's worth noting that some filters are reusable and can be cleaned by hand using cold water.
What size HVAC equipment is right for my home?
Determining the appropriate HVAC equipment size for your home depends on various factors including square footage, insulation, window configuration, geographic location, and duct arrangement. Our technicians at Marcos' AC & Heating Inc. can perform an in-home load analysis to recommend the ideal equipment combination for your specific needs. Generally, one ton of air conditioning can cool between 300 to 800 square feet, depending on your home's construction. A professional evaluation ensures you get the right-sized system for your requirements.
What is the life expectancy of my unit?
The average lifespan of HVAC systems is approximately 10 years, though this can vary depending on several factors. The type of system, local climate, and frequency of routine maintenance all play a role in determining the life expectancy of your specific equipment.
