  As bad as it may be, this is still the best option in town for hardware and building materials. I was working on a job, and needed 10 feet of chain. I drove the 15+ miles to Higginbotham Brothers, found the chain I needed, told the lady working there how much I needed, then assuming she was competent and knew what she was doing, I went into a different part of the store to grab some other needed materials. When I finished gathering what I needed, she had put my chain in a small sack, ready to go. I paid my tab, drove back to the job site and went back to work. When I dumped the chain out of the bag, it was obviously quite a bit too short. I got a tape measure and checked, it was exactly 7’10”. I gathered my tools, once again drove the 15+ miles to town, found the employee who had cut my chain, and explained my situation. Her reply was, “Oh, you mean you actually needed ten feet?” Hmm, I asked for ten feet, I paid for ten feet, it only seems logical that I should have received ten feet. She cut another piece of chain for me, this time I measured it myself before leaving, to make sure I got what I ordered. I no longer do business at Higginbotham Brothers, unless it’s an emergency, it’s not worth the hassle of having to deal with employees who either don’t know what they’re doing, or don’t care about customer satisfaction enough to do it right. The difference in price between there and Lowe’s or Home Depot makes the additional few miles worth the trip on most purchases, and the 25-30 mile drive, is closer than having to drive to DC and back, twice.

  I have been a customer of this store for over 40 years. My friend and partner in our business started in 1983, I have never encountered a Manager like they have now! Rude is the only word that describes him! He was rude to my Dad, and treated me like I didn't know what I wanted. I was working in contracting when his Mama was diapering him!
