My 78 year old mothers heater went out during the winter weather we just had. Cool Climate was there in a flash and took care of getting her system up and running. Leo and Carl went above and beyond. My mom told Leo she could not get her truck out of the garage because of the ice and before Leo left he cleared the ice from her driveway. My mom was floored by the customer service and happy with her new system. Would highly recommend Cool Climate to anyone that needs HVAC work done. Thanks for the great work!!

Get a second opinion!! I called Cool Climate because our heat stopped working. Carl said he would be here in 30 minutes, on a Sunday! Great! After checking our inside unit, Carl said the zone board went out and it would be $1900 (WOW). I know HVAC problems can be pricey but was not expecting that. I talked with a trained technician who lives in my neighborhood told him my issues. He agreed that was pricey for the zone board. So I called another company. Once he came out, he stated the zone board is actually not the problem, it’s the wiring!! So not only did Carl misdiagnose the issues, also price gouge!!! The board itself online is no more than $300. He must have some very very high labor charges. BEWARE. You at least got $175 out of me for the call
How do I know what is the best air conditioning, heater, furnace, and/or complete system for my home?
Determining the optimal heating and cooling system for your home involves several factors. These include your home's size, whether you need a gas or electric system, the energy efficiency rating (SEER), your available budget, and your preferred brand. Each of these elements plays a crucial role in selecting the most suitable system for your specific needs.
What is a SEER rating?
SEER stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio. It's a measure defined by the air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration institute in their standard ARI 210/240. This standard evaluates the performance rating of unitary air-conditioning and air-source heat pump equipment.
What does the SEER rating mean to me as a consumer?
For consumers, the SEER rating is an indicator of energy efficiency. A higher SEER rating means the unit or system will operate more efficiently, resulting in long-term cost savings. However, it's important to note that units with higher SEER ratings typically have a higher initial purchase price.
My air conditioner is not cooling. What should I do?
Before contacting a professional, there are several steps you can take. First, check your filters as clogged filters can cause system shutdown. Next, inspect your breakers and thermostat batteries. Ensure the air handler in the attic isn't obstructed. For maintenance, turn off the system at the breaker and clean the exterior coil. Avoid mowing grass towards the unit to prevent clogging and damage. If these steps don't resolve the issue, or if you're uncomfortable performing these checks, please contact us for assistance.
How often should I change my filter(s)?
During the hot Texas summers, we advise replacing your filters every 30 days. We recommend using a pleated filter of moderate quality - not the cheapest, but not necessarily the most expensive either. This simple and cost-effective practice is crucial for maintaining your system's efficiency.
What brand(s) do you recommend?
Brand recommendations can vary based on dealer and supplier relationships, as well as current deals and incentives. While personal preferences play a role, we primarily recommend comfortmaker. This is the brand that Carl, the owner of Cool Climate, has chosen for his own home, which speaks to our confidence in its quality and performance.
If I pay more for a brand, does that mean it is a better quality of equipment?
While higher-priced brands often offer superior quality, this isn't always the case. Sometimes, you're paying for brand recognition. It's worth researching lesser-known affiliated brands of major manufacturers, as these can offer excellent quality at a lower price point. Also, consider long-term costs - some brands require more expensive parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs.
Why does Freon cost so much?
The price of Freon, particularly R-22 which is common in older air conditioning systems, has increased dramatically. Since January 2003, the cost of R-22 Freon has risen by over 500%, with prices more than doubling in the past year alone.
Why have the prices increased so much?
The significant price increase is due to EPA regulations. In January 2010, the EPA banned the manufacture of new air conditioners using R-22 due to its ozone-depleting properties. While R-22 use wasn't banned outright, its production and import were restricted to servicing existing equipment. The EPA mandated a 90% reduction in consumption by January 2015, and a 99.5% reduction by January 2020. Production of R-22 will cease entirely in January 2020. These regulations have led to sharp price increases, and owners of R-22 systems should expect costs to continue rising dramatically over the next 5-10 years as supplies diminish.
Our energy bill seems high; how will I know if I need more insulation?
As a general guideline, approximately 12 inches of loose insulation is recommended for optimal energy efficiency. Adequate insulation can significantly contribute to reducing your utility costs.
How do I determine the best air conditioning or heating system for my home?
Choosing the best system depends on your home's size, gas or electric needs, SEER rating, budget, and brand preference.
What is a SEER rating and why is it important?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating and indicates the efficiency of air-conditioning and heat pump equipment. Higher SEER ratings mean more efficient systems that save money long-term.
What should I do if my air conditioner is not cooling properly?
First, check and replace clogged filters, check breakers and thermostat batteries, and ensure air handler is unblocked. Clean the exterior coil by turning the system off at the breaker. If issues persist, call us for professional help.
How often should I change my air filters?
It's recommended to replace air filters every 30 days, especially during hot Texas summers, using pleated filters for effective maintenance.
What brands of HVAC equipment do you recommend?
We primarily recommend Comfortmaker, the brand our owner uses at home, but brand recommendations depend on dealer incentives and preferences.
Why has the cost of Freon increased so much recently?
Freon costs have risen due to EPA restrictions on R-22 production to protect the ozone layer, leading to reduced supply and higher prices.
