We have a nice home in a lovely neighborhood, but it was a typical suburban design with narrow hallways and compartmented rooms. We had recently remodeled the basement and we were now ready to tackle the kitchen. We knew we wanted a more workable kitchen and that removing a wall would create a better space for entertaining. We also knew we wanted the project to have a “wow” factor but were not exactly sure how to get there. Our interior designer knew just who we needed; she referred us to Joe Currie of Capitol Design. The first thing Joe suggested was reconfiguring the layout of the room itself by removing a wall and widening an entrance to open the space to the family room. He also streamlined the room by deleting a door and removing a zig-zag portion of a wall. We wanted to retain seating in the kitchen and didn’t know how this new layout would accommodate it. Joe designed a 45° peninsula with an attached 48” diameter round glass tabletop. Even with renderings, it was still difficult to visualize. The day before installation, I called Joe to express my reservation, and he asked me just to trust him. We are so glad we did. Now when friends and relatives see the kitchen for the first time, they say, “Wow!” We found Joe to be very knowledgeable about all phases of construction and design, very patient with our questions and concerns and extremely accessible by phone, text or email. We look forward to working with Joe on our next project!

Joe is absolutely fantastic! He gave me loads of information over email before even meeting us! When he did come over to our house to discuss specifics and design ideas, he had our entire kitchen redone in under a month! I can't recommend him or his workers highly enough. We will definitely be hiring him to redo our bathroom sometime in the future!

Joe did a modest bathroom design for us, with creative use of materials and a keen eye for proportions and detail.
We liked so much how the bathroom came out that now we're in the middle of designing a major Master Bedroom / Bathroom 'suite' remodel and we really like what we are seeing. We knew it to be a design challenge but Joe knows how to make it look right, and delivered to us a draft that we're considering now.

I first approached Joe about designing a pulpit and communion table for our new campus which we are building in North Austin. I wanted pieces which were uniquely Austin, but were also reverent and relevant to our faith. His unusual tripod pulpit design and the graceful, contemporary curves of the communion table crafted from native mesquite wood and limestone perfectly blended those elements resulting in purposeful yet artful pieces. Our church design committee asked Joe to consult with us on various architectural details in the project. His expertise aided us substantially in the completion of the baptistry, foyer and church offices. Particularly, his recommendation of a two-level ceiling with floating soffit helped us regain functioning windows in our soaring foyer. We have been pleased with Joe's work and would highly recommend him for your project. -- Rev. Rodney Shaw, Sr. Pastor, New Life Church of Austin
