  I live out of state, and had Fred install a new roof on my rental property in Arlington almost 6 years ago as an insurance claim for hail damage (we even paid extra to upgrade the type of shingle used). A couple of years after the install, we found that water was leaking in the garage after some very heavy rains. Fred sent his guys out and I was told that the wood under the gables was deteriorating and that's how water was getting in because the wind had blown the rain sideways. He said they could stop the leak for $250 so I authorized it. $250 gets you a tube of silicone! In February of 2022 I was in Arlington to do work on the house and saw that water was still leaking into the garage. I had a licensed contractor and we got on the roof only to find that the roof Fred installed was not done correctly. Chunks of the old shingles and nails were left under the flashing of the gables during the tear off and it appears the installers just pried up the existing flashing and tried shoving the paper under, running a bead of silicone and then shoving the new shingles under. I contacted Fred and sent him pictures of what we had found (same pictures attached to this review) and he said he would send his guys out to look at it. I was in Texas for over two weeks, and Fred's guys never came out. He kept putting off when they would be able to come and eventually he stopped responding to my text messages (crickets chirping!). I paid my contractor to repair the gable over the garage, but there are still two other gables that were done incorrectly. My current tenant contacted me this week and said there was water leaking in the house when it rained on 9/3/24, so I tried contacting Fred again trying to get him to stand behind his work. In this case he actually sent someone out 9/6/24 and it turned out there was hole in one of the shingles causing this leak (no idea how it got there, but Fred's guy said it looked like a bullet hole). Fred said the repair would be at least $325. Not wanting another expensive tube of silicone, I texted Fred asking him to call me. After waiting about 10 minutes with no call, I sent another text asking how the repair would be done for $325. Silence! About 15 minutes later I sent another text saying that I would not authorize a repair for over $300 without knowing what would be done and I also readdressed the issues with the way the roof was installed at the gables. My son-in-law who lives nearby and helps me manage the property was there today when Fred's employee came out. After Fred sent me the text about the $325 repair and me questioning what that would entail, Fred told his employee that I was not responding so his employee left. The next message I got from Fred was, "I'm not gonna go tear up something on a whim, It's lasted 8 years and you want me to tear it apart, no, and now that you know where the leak is, you can get one of your other roofers to handle it for you." Fred is referring to two other roofers that I consulted with, both of whom told me that the silicone used actually allows water to get trapped behind and will leak under the shingles. They also say that typically, workmanship on a roof install is guaranteed for 10 years and my roof was installed just under 6 years ago in November 2018 (not 8 like Fred says). If "it's lasted this long" is your bar for workmanship, then by all means give Fred a call. My wife has previously given Fred a 1 star review and Fred's response to the review was for us to call because they wanted to make it right. I was hoping to be able to leave a good review saying that Fred lived up to his word, but sadly, no!

  Fred Valdez roofing took care of me in a timely matter. I had a roof leak and they came out next day and completed an inspection. They also assisted with the insurance company paperwork to get me a brand new roof. Thank you Fred!

  Pays to shop around. Needed roof repairs from the Oct 2014 wind storm. First company gave me estimate for $1950 for simple repairs. Called Valdez Roofing, charged only $300 and did the job the next morning. THANKS! Got your card and will use this company for any future roofing needs.
