First time using Chanscy and Reynolds. But I will definitely be a repeat customer! Connor was my technician and he could not have been more professional, polite and knowledgeable. The job was done quickly at a fair price. Thank you Connor!

Had Carson from Chauncey &Reynolds come out to give a second opinion on heater repair. First company stated the ten year warranty wasn’t valid because we aren’t home owners that had originally installed system ( this is same company that installed system 7 years ago) Asked $1200 total for repair. Carson confirmed issue ( same as other tech), he called manufacturer directly. Warranty was good, had part and heater running in 45 minutes. $200 parts and labor, did not try to sell me a membership, etc to “get costs down”. Straight forward and very much appreciated Very thankful for referral to C&R. They will be on my speed dial going forward.

*review of service side only, not comfort team* Here are the high points of the review: - Insufficient diagnostic - Overpriced leak test(hourly rate would come to something like $675/hr) - Overpriced repair quote The gist is that my unit was underperforming and they sent a tech out to diagnose. He checked the refrigerant charge at the condenser first with Bluetooth gauges. It read low. I have a mini split system, so I asked if he needed to evacuate the system to get an accurate read. He assured me what he did was industry standard. He showed me pricing of $225 to do a leak test. He said if it turns into a more extensive leak test, it’d be $415. I had seen similar pricing from other service companies, so I agreed reluctantly, thinking the extensive test wouldn’t be necessary. He spent 20 min in the attic at the air handler with a refrigerant sensor tool that effectively blinks with a red light if it senses refrigerant outside of the system. I asked if he needed to check the mini split heads as well, since it’s all on the same system and since I had already agreed to pay for the leak test. He told me that I’d have to pay the $415(don’t remember the exact value but it was over $400) if I wanted him to check those as well. Keep in mind none of those costs include repairs. I did not proceed with the additional cost for a “more extensive” leak test. He ultimately said I needed a new evaporator coil and a repair at one of the fittings at the air handler. After about 30-45min of waiting for him to price this, he said it would be over $5800 for that repair. This was obviously cost prohibitive, as I had been quoted just north of $10k for a complete new system, including the indoor and outdoor unit. The critique here is mainly the manner in which the whole diagnostic was performed. The refrigerant has frequent surges in these mini split systems (mine is Mitsubishi), and there isn’t a way to get a proper read with the gauges. The system needs to be weighed out. That wasn’t done. Second, I paid for a leak test that was nothing more than what I could’ve done with that sniffer tool/sensor. I would think that if I am paying for a leak test, that would include at least a basic run through the whole system, not just one line set coming off the outdoor unit. So, I was basically charged a rate of $675/hr for an insufficient leak test. Maybe he diagnosed it properly, maybe not. I don’t want to pay another $400 to find out. I also believe the markup on equipment that companies like these charge is crazy. Unfortunately, all of these “local” companies are owned by larger conglomerates that control the pricing. Hopefully C&R and others in town can work together to control the price gouging.
