I’ve rented equipment from United Rentals several times and generally appreciate their service, but this recent experience left me a bit disappointed. I reserved an excavator and compactor for a week-long job and specifically requested a 36” smooth bucket over a month in advance. While this might seem like a minor detail, receiving a toothed bucket instead added a lot of extra manual work on my end—shoveling and raking to get the precise finish I needed. I was offered the option to drive to another location to pick up the correct bucket, but in my view, that shouldn’t fall on the customer—especially when the request was made well in advance. I had a tight schedule and couldn’t afford the time to leave the job site. Also worth noting, the excavator I’ve rented in the past had a cab with AC, and this time it didn’t. It’s not a deal-breaker—more of a comfort issue—but with temps in the 90s all week, it made for a long few days. Overall, I’m not completely dissatisfied, and I know things don’t always go perfectly. But I do hope United Rentals sharpens up on fulfilling specific equipment requests when made ahead of time. Details matter—especially when they impact jobsite productivity
